Teenagers and young women of today kiss each other at parties. I don't get it.
A couple of years ago a friend of mine, in her early 30s, was at a work do. After a while much drink had been drunk and the 19-year-old student part-timer declared that everyone should start smooching. My friend was horrified and wandered off to drink more; the guys at the party weren't. Sadly, no one wanted to kiss the one bisexual woman there.

I like the debate that comes around every Olympics, where someone declares that certain Olympic events aren't real sports and should be removed from the Games.
But what's a weird pseudo sport in one country is the national game of another. Slalom kayaking, handball, and rhythmic gymnastics might not be sports that have a huge following in New Zealand, but our medal tally/hopes are reliant on niche sports like sailboarding, BMX and triathlon.

Rumour has it that rogue Council officials are trying to close the Academy Cinema so they can have (I don't know) a cinema of their own?
I heard it was because the library needs more storage space...
Never mind that there was an Academy theatre on that spot before the library was built there.

I dunno, Russell. If one uses "boob" as slang for one of lesser mental agility I think that, in the current temperatures, boobs is entirely accurate :P
Or perhaps "boobs watching boobs on bikes".

You rode until you dropped. You suffered delusions, hallucinations.
This reminds me of the trike-a-thon I took part in in 1979, aged 4. I got about halfway around the Hillcrest cycle track on my trike, then decided it was too hard and cut across the middle, back to the start.
That could have been me at the Olympics, you know.

I was wondering why so many journalists seem to be scared/bewildered/confused by bloggers and blogging. Because, at its heart, blogging is just writing.
Perhaps it helped that in the past, the new media threats to print media were radio and television - audio-visual media. Blogging and the internet is the first media to come along where writing is key.
To be a successful blogger, you just have to be able to write well. Just like being a journalist.

how many cats can say they've been on telly?
Not many, but there'd be quite a few who've been on top of a telly - high and warm!
In fact, I hear that kittehs have been strongly lobbying against flat-screen TVs due to the reduced space on top for them to curl up on.

The problem comes when the men come out for their matches – in singlets. "O Noes!" cry the laydeez, "we can haz beefcake?!"
The laydeez over at Jezebel have been drooling over the shirtless New Zealand football team doing a haka.
(Which in turn has led to a few New Zealanders having to explain to the Americans why it's considered normal and not exploitive in New Zealand for white boys to be doing an "indigenous" war dance.)

What a beautiful, lovely kitty. And when I see how fluffy he was, it makes me want to snoogle his belly. Yes.
It sounds like Tonka had a really good life, and I'm glad you got to say goodbye to him.
Thanks for sharing the story, and especially for the lovely photos.

I'm no expert but surely if Google is a noun, then the verb is googling?
Googling would be the adjective form. The verb would be to google.
At my old job, our house spelling declared that the proper noun was Google and the verb was google. "I went to Google and googled 'hot Olympic swimmers'."
As for Googling/googling/Google-ing/google-ing, I would personally spell it googling. But I bet Google Inc would prefer something like "using GoogleTM search".
But don't sweat it. Go with what feels right. The people - not some prescriptive English language usage guide - will decide how it's spelt.
