Hard News: A dramatic and unremarkable decision, in reply to
While medical use should not be confused with recreational, I think the healing plant involved deserves some credit.
You can rebrand venison as cervena, but inside it's still Bambi.

Medications which are extracted from cannabis are definitly not cannabis.
Would that be Pedantic with a capital P Steven? Seriously?

Thanks for a sensible post on this topic Russell. As usual.
It's ironic that while we have America to thank (blame) for our current cannabis laws, attitudes change and 41 US states now permit the use of medical marijuana. But it's still a banned substance in NZ.
I realise that the odds are low, but I sincerely hope that CBD provides Alex some relief from his seizures. That scenario might widen the conversation and hopefully modify some of the more entrenched attitudes towards the medical use of cannabis.
And kudos to Peter Dunne for moving so quickly this time.

Don't we have a law against this?
Yep... there's been a Customs export prohibition since 2007. It looks like MPI are prepared to turn a blind eye when certain people are involved. Why all the secrecy surrounding this shipment? Are the Nats bribing a Mexican billionaire this time?
Speaking of secrecy, I note that the Herald has yet to run the story, even though it's been on the front page of Stuff all afternoon.

It seems that reruns of Road Cops wasn't working for TV3. From Monday they'll screen Come Dine With Me - a local adaptation of yet another cheap reality show out of the UK.
TV3 says Come Dine With Me is an interim measure while a new 7pm current affairs show is prepared.
I have some sympathy for the remaining TV3 news staff. Unfortunately for them, their bosses Christie and Weldon view audiences as mindless sheep who will watch any old crap.
In these days of diminishing broadcast audiences, TV3 just threw away a solid base of viewers who appreciated serious programming. More fool them.

Another chapter in the Dirty Politics saga.
Posted yesterday in the Will the grown-ups ever arrive home thread with the rest of the Rachinger stuff. ;-)

Here's the online video courtesy TV3.

The Rachinger story featured on The Nation today -- oddly, I can't locate an online version on the TV3 site. The Herald has a summary of the claims.
The IT consultant posted his claims on the internet earlier this year, and this morning The Nation broadcast an interview with him, detailing his claims Slater commissioned him to hack into left-wing political blog The Standard to try to uncover the identities of the authors of blogs written anonymously or under pseudonyms.
"Cameron Slater asked me, for financial benefit, to hack into The Standard website and to pull out any and all information about authors of anonymous blog posts on The Standard and also to find out email addresses and IP addresses for further hacking," Mr Rachinger told TV's The Nation.
Slater has long claimed blogs on The Standard are ghost written by Labour insiders, including staff members.
In an encrypted text sent to Mr Rachinger in January, Slater allegedly said: "I want proof of admin at The Standard ... I will destroy them."
He later allegedly said: "I want them all outed, all the MPs, [The Standard founder Lynn] Prentice, [Labour Party chief of staff Matt] McCarten ... all of them."
Mr Rachinger says Slater asked him to "focus on this job of getting into The Standard", and said he had $5000 available to pay him to do so. But Slater would not name his backer, who was funding the hacking request.
Hmmm... paying a hacker to infiltrate websites. Isn't there a law against that? Counties Manukau CIB confirm they are investigating Rachinger's allegations but say it's "a complex investigation" and a decision on charges would be "some way off."

Mihi did a great job exposing corruption in the Te Kohanga Reo Trust Board. As I recall that didn't go down well with station execs who didn't think maori should expose wrong within maori organisations, even when the ripoffs revealed were so blatant and just plain wrong. According to Stuff...
It is understood Forbes' resignation comes after Maori Television executives took exception to a new two-piece investigation following on from the Te Kohanga Reo story and which was due to begin on Monday.
Our airwaves are becoming more Fifa-like by the day.
