  • Hard News: Unreasonable people vote,

I couldn't get motivated by the rally to restore sanity.

It felt to me in an attempt to attack the insane political wings in the states, it's ended up encouraging no political thought, rather than sane political thought. I watched Jon Stewart's 12 minute speech to see what he said and have never been so disappointed in him.

It was the political rally that didn't provide political solutions but made everyone feel good about how fucked up their political system is.

Marcus' band isn't very metal. It might take more than umlauts I think.

I don't know why he gave up, but maybe he needed a break.

Watterson fought for many years to prevent the commercialisation of his comic creations, something tremendously difficult for a cartoonist who tend to sign away all rights over their creations in order to get them published - including allowing other people to create them once they stop doing so. He had a wonderful outlook on his cartoons and their purpose - the final Calvin and Hobbes cartoon is my favourite ever - Calvin and Hobbes sledding off to new adventures.

He gave up Calvin and Hobbes because he felt he couldn't achieve any more in the cartooning format. He's done some painting and has been very reclusive since.

China Meiville/Orson Scott Card/Greg Bear also have a depth of publications that could make excellent film scripts/series.

Greg Bear's book about the destruction of the earth by aliens would make a great movie, except for the whole no one coming along to save it problem.

Some of his other ones that follow a bunch of youth in a space ship seeking revenge seem too... non-standard to make a popular movie. The enemy is never clearly defined, as is the ship that they travel in. Plus all the gratitous sex all the time. The psychology between the characters could make a good thriller though.

I want to point to my comment made a couple of weeks ago of how I thought Donald was a bad idea. As I watched Carter walk off after 60 minutes I said (to myself) "that's a mistake".
