For once, catching up on this on PA took longer than on Kiwiblog. For starters, most of the PA posts were worth reading. Kiwiblog threads on it so far are a parody of themselves.

Heh, this story is big news for NZ. Which is one of the good things about NZ.

A country needs to be lot more poor and oppressed than NZ to have a successful uprising of any kind.
That said, I don't like the idea of armed militias roaming around in the forests, whether or not it's about protecting cash crops.
They could get up to mischief just in the forest, let alone any grandiose plans of whacking high level targets. A country of laws doesn't allow it.

Ok. So you get into a lift and find a cobra, a lion and John Banks. You only have two bullets in your gun what do you do?
Apologize to the lion and the cobra and tell them that real Aucklanders don't fart in lifts. Then enjoy the show.

I tried to get upset and outraged about Banks getting elected but found that, just like with the ABs getting beat, I just couldn't do it. Politics is a spectator sport and we're all pretty much powerless to influence outcomes. The differences between the candidates to most of us personally are minimal, except for the shame factor. Outsiders will say "Jeez your team sucks at the Cup, and your Mayor is a total toss", and we'll just have to eat it. Otherwise, the buses will still suck, the roads will still be our main source of transport for the foreseeable future, and the World Cup will still be played at Eden Park, whatever toss-face says.
Personally I hope he sticks to blabbing on the Radio full time, and couldn't care less if the Truth is where he hears about teh netz. It'll also say "Banks Thanks Skanks for Spanks, Gangs and Vice Girls on P say", and he'll be all the happier that even pervies will be thinking about him.

I thought compressions worked just as well. Laws should be compressible, it shows pattern. Your drug laws should be able to be compressed down to "Everything should be allowed, and clearly labelled, and you shouldn't be in charge of anything dangerous if it impairs you". Having 4 different categories, with descriptions of exactly what active chemical and it's analogues, because a description of the effects would have to clearly either include alchohol, tobacco and coffee, or exclude everything with analogous effects, is hard to compress. It's piecemeal, random and shit.

Russell, a total aside: Have you ever had to moderate anything that wasn't spam since you enabled comments?

Tussock, Mountain Climbing is only the BZP of extreme fun. The P is having a decent car, and that's already being legislated and disincentivized away. But of course there are more and more users anyway, more criminalized youths every day. The War on Fun will never be won. How can you have a war against your own children?

linger I kind of agree. I had an online gaming pseudonym back when I used to fritter away life that way, but I ended up being as careful with what I said as that, as I am with my real name now. Otherwise you blow the only purpose of using a consistent handle - that people might want to read what you say.
Troll wouldn't care less. They're only targeting the non-savvy and other trolls anyway.

Going to Varsity is a gateway to harder stuff, all by itself.
