And he put it in his speech, which does make it worse. Politicians can often be forgiven for unfortunate remarks, but it appears Key actually meant to do it.
Well, if the press hasn't caused him to regret this statement, I suspect this question (question 10 of today's Questions for Oral Answer) may:
CHARLES CHAUVEL to the Prime Minister: Does he stand by his statement “We may not always agree with what you say, but we will always listen”?

Paul, if anyone but you had said that I'd be suing for defamation.
Glad you took it in the spirit it was intended. There was plenty of BS put about that Law School, all of it to do with a misplaced sense of superiority...
rules around the breakdown are so mysterious that one person's cheat is another person's great player.
I don't know that they're that mysterious, more that they're hard for a referee to observe... that's why touchies are now assistant referees (I thought) but where the f**k was the assistant referee when Ross was binned?
With guys like Hore, Woodcock, Thorn, Rodney and Richie in the side I would've thought we'd stand up better.
Peter we did on defence, it wasn't a lack of physicality that lost us the game... we certainly lost the lineouts but the scrums went our way I thought. Do you mean the ruck/mauls?

And I personally think it would be nice if Labour's chief whip actually stood up and said "we dropped the ball on this one" rather than saying "move along, nothing to see here."
I fully agree. But will listen to the RNZ interview too.
Politicians, though, are not uniquely skilled people, except maybe at being suckups who can tolerate endless hours of brown-nosing.
Matthew, I think that's unduly harsh. There are some sycophants and blow-hards, but by and large they work hard and faithfully and it's not a job anyone would want to do.
None of these people were earning $131K a year plus $14K expenses plus accomodation and travel before they entered politics.
It's about pissing contests, nothing more.
I/S, this too seems harsh. They're reasonably well paid agreed, some have experience that would make them appointable to many senior jobs and for others, it might be a pay increase, but they put in the hours.
I don't disagree that many professions ought to be paid more, nurses particularly, but I don't think we pay too much for a backbencher if they're working 10 hour days 6 or more days a week.

Now we're failing before the WC
I know a guy you can see about that.
Boom tish.
I apologise and withdraw the suggestion that Scott Yorke is a lawyer.
But not from a real law school or anything... (now Scott, you know I can make the joke right?)

Can Kyle be my proxy in any further discussion on this matter, he's said exactly what I would like to have...

Them family values fair overfloweth.
Oh how I wish I had Craig's lyrical skills right now...
Heatley's practiced manner gave him away... But I'm a family man, <dogwhistle>not some barren-femo-nazi-lesbian</dogwhistle>, I need your money to keep my family together... never mind that I'll cut whatever subsidy keeps your's from sinking...
What's the bet Farrar does a comparative analysis of the Minister's with kids in National and tells us these subsidies are just part of the price you pay to have real NZers running the show.

15-9 to England in 1993. Referee hated us that day too.
I vividly remember that game. Wasn't Wilson handed kicking duties? My wife, prior to us meeting, was at the game... not a fan, just an ex-pat going with mates... I don't think she enjoyed it either.
Oh and gidday Ed, I'm assuming your the same chap I shared an office, of sorts, with circa 1996?
I'm not convinced that this team or that performance was quite as bad as others' say. The lineouts were apalling, the scrums excellent. Kicks in play weren't good, nor was our ability to deal with the high ball, but our defence was superb. Were it not for some of the errors, some of the penalties, the teams wouldn't have been so far apart.
Perhaps it's also my concern that we not be the best team in the world two years out from a RWC... how many fucking times has that happened...
I sadly agree with some of Kyle prescription too. Weepu's not played well this tournament, Joe's not nearly the player he was, So'oialo too.

C'mon Craig, English hoped he'd earn our sympathy as a caring father, that's transparently clear. It's a distraction.
He changed the ownership arrangements for his home in order to increase his allowances; that's the issue. It's compounded by the apparent hypocrisy of the Minister of Finance acting in a way that's precisly the opposite of his counsel to the public-at-large.
-
And I'd rather avoid politicians' children becoming tokens in any kind of game, "fair" or not, thanks.
Craig, I fear you've overlooked that English made his family the issue, no one else.
-
Craig, I fully agree... that's kinda what I thought 3410's comment to Glenn Pearce meant... It's not relevant.
Moreover, it's Bill English who introduced this into the discussion, no one else. The number of kids they have is their business.
