Ok having watched both Paradise Lost and Conchords last night, I have a question for the Prime TV schedulers, do they not think they might have the shows in the wrong order? Shouldn't you lead in with your good show.
I second that emotion. Can't see anything about FOTC that makes it deserving of a 10pm timeslot. Nor about Welcome to Paradise that says it deserves to be on before 11!

OR ? OT ? Isn't it OF ?
On a completely different topic, Fiona's mention in the Listener that UKTV are going to screen the Hornblower telefilms again led me to wonder how many Battlestar Galactica fans have noticed the connection... Before he was Captain Apollo, Jamie Bamber played the slightly pathetic and very British Archie Kennedy, Horatio Hornblower's very good friend - I was quite surprised when I realised Apollo was an Englishman, he does a pretty convincing job of the accent.

State of Play's up against Outrageous Fortune so I can't watch it on Tuesday, but after your recommendation in the Listener I recorded the early-morning repeat of episode one last week. Brilliant. It even hooked my other half, which for a non-SF drama is a fairly remarkable feat.

3410, sorry to hear about your lack of Alt but relieved it's staying on Sky - being in Wellington we've only ever been able to get it that way. I'd actually been wondering if it was too good to be true, since decent music channels tend to progress rapidly from endangered to extinct around here. Anyway we're enjoying it while it lasts...

Gutted.

R.I.P. the great Alt TV

Just had a d'oh moment... re-reading several days later, finally figured out that squerp'yens might be scorpions. Fantastic.
If you like the sound of Sin Fairies you and your son(s) might enjoy Ferocious the Puppy Dragon. It was one of my favourites - I always want to recommend it, but most of my friends' kids aren't old enough readers yet.
For a bit of Kiwi flavour Down in the Forest is a lovely counting book; and the Avis Acres Hutu and Kawa stories are pretty gorgeous - maybe a bit wordy, but with underlying conservation messages that seem awfully modern for stories written the fifties.

probably a good excuse to remind you that you can also sign up for the daily email heads-up from Public Address
That reminds me - why does the footer in those emails say "You received this email because you have given bFM your email address"? I'm pretty sure I never did any such thing.

After reading some of this I finally got annoyed with the "Paul Holmes's daughter!" angle, and looked for a story focusing on her mum. I didn't find any, but came across this interesting comment in the readers' feedback to the story on Stuff:
"Why have reports failed to recognise that Millie's mother is now Dr Hinemoa Elder - a psychiatrist - specialising in the mental health of adolescents? This is worth a mention surely as Dr Elder is to be one of the main guest speakers at the National Early Psychosis Intervention Conference hosted by Hau Ora Waikato in Hamilton in the coming weeks and "P" is one of the big contributors to psychosis!"
- Mary CribbFound the conference info here.
I'm surprised the MSM haven't picked up on this, instead labelling Dr E a 'former television presenter' as if that's the only interesting thing she's ever done.

If you're ever thinking of staying at the Royal @ Queens Hotel, think about staying somewhere else
Never been there (thank goodness!) but on our stopover last year we stayed at the Carlton on Bras Basah - not far away - and thought it was excellent. I think it was NZ$160/170 a night but our rooms were big, clean and well equipped, and the service was great.
