  • Regulate What?,

This all suggests that Simon Power needs to expand the range of blogs in his feed reader.

Maybe we should come up with a list of sites he should be reading for him. Obviously The Wellingtonista and Hubris are good starting points...

T-shirts should also be available in lowcut options, because some New Zealanders like their boobs. And in long sleeves, and short sleeves, and no sleeves. But not in "wifebeater" fashion.

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

Not as bad as "ladyfriend": a term usually used by wives.

I tend to use "gentleman caller" if my friends are doing someone but have yet to have the Let Us Define Our Relationship With One Word talk.

Personally, I am most excited about getting Facebook statused.

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

I believe technically they're known as a "murder of lovers".

What about a grope of lovers? No, I suppose a grope of shags would be more appropriate. A clusterfuck of lovers? Or is that only relevant if you live in Wellington?

Don't some people who get civil unioned talk about being CUP'd? Which sounds more like an inappropriate tailor.

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

Well, there's a shade of difference in meaning between 'lover' and, say 'bonk', or 'fuckbuddy' or 'shag'.

True, I retract my bucketful of lovers then. A handful perhaps.

  • Up Front: Staying Civil,

This might just be my personal experience, but to me a "lover" doesn't convey equalness or really any kind of relationship beyond the sexual connection, unlike "partner", but you're right, "partner" does sound a little clinical. So I've had bucketloads of lovers, but no partner, and one boyfriend, sort of. Words are super important to me, so I have no idea what I would call a significant other in my life. Perhaps that's why I don't have one (yes, that's why, honest).

  • Hard News: The GST Punt,

But if only we could somehow give all the downtrodden, morbidly obese solo mothers living in squalor their own Les Mills personal trainer we could transform their lives.

Now, I know that's a quote from an illogical unreasonable person, but I'm sure there are people reading it going "yeah actually, we should". So to those people, before you think that thought again, here's a challenge for you: find a decent plus-size sports bra. And find some plus-size togs that are made for actually swimming in, so perhaps a racer-back one piece. Go on. I'll wait right here for you. Then think about how maybe there actually more barriers to exercise than you might realise.

  • Voting Local 2010,

Awesome, and now we've learnt that, let's talk about how delightful I am.

  • Voting Local 2010,

In an STV election, if there is someone you really really don't want to win, rank them last, and rank everyone else above them. It can do absolutely no harm whatsoever to the people you want to win.

Really? Because I have heard so many different ideas about this, like whether it is better or worse to number someone or not to number them. I trust you to know the law, so is that the definitive answer? If you hate someone, make sure to number all your candidates and number them last?

    Good work Wellingtonista though

Cheers, we're doing our best within the confines of our day jobs and social lives, neither of which real journalists are supposed to have...
