Almost makes me think we should revisit the whole flag issue,
This site has been around since the last time this came up, I believe. Personally, I find their proposed design way too sports-related but their intention is nice.

it is ghastly. It is the sort of pattern one might find on the curtains of a provincial community hall.
Provincial community halls are well-known havens of great design.
It is a difficult design to repeat, and so has spawned many clumsy imitations, particularly in Grey Lynn.
It's an incredibly simple design – I reckon it'd be easier to repeat than the NZ flag, if one was to have a 'Recreate A Flag Of Your Choice Using Crayons' competition. For some reason.
Its colours are unfortunate, given their use in 20th Century Europe.
So thanks to the Nazis we can no longer use the combination of red, black and white? Why did I not get this memo?
At least those colours have a meaning in this case:
What does the red, white and black represent?
These colours come from the story of creation. The black represents "Te Po" the darkness, the red represents the blood that was spilt and the white represents "Te Ao Marama" - the light. -
I hope you're joking. Red and black is possibly the best combination of colours ever (go Crusaders). Not to mention red, black and white are all strong Maori colour combinations.
Simply from a design perspective you can't deny the beauty of the Tino Rangatiratanga flag.

The Maori flag is no more the Maori Party's than the New Zealand flag is Labour's.
I think it's great. Wasn't it only last year Transit was saying only the NZ flag was allowed to fly from the Harbour Bridge (despite having Scotland's up there at one point)? This is progress!

WTF was going on with the TV coverage?
Yeah, the French and their super slow-mo glory shots. My favourite bit was when we lost a line-out and they decided to show a slow-mo replay of one we won from about 15 minutes earlier.
We may bitch and moan about Nisbo and Mexted, but technically, our camera work is awesome.
Having said that, to this day no one at Sky TV has learnt how to film the haka. I know they're not allowed to film it from in-front, but is it that difficult to point the camera at one of the Maori players instead of whoever's blackest? They do it best. And can we stop cutting to the opposition side looking stoic? Jesus it's annoying.

...PLEASE DO NOT BREACH AN ORDER OR TRY AND BE CLEVER IN A WAY THAT MIGHT LEAD TO A NAME BEING DISCOVERED.
Funnily enough, I reckon that's what today's Herald did.
Great post today, Russell. You really made me reconsider my opinion on this.

It would also help if some MMP advocates could dial all the way back on the "you're with us, or you're an evil tool" self-righteousness. Even if I'm inclined to agree with your conclusions, the tone just raises my hackles to no good end.
I meant there would be disinformation from both sides since it was so close and, y'know, that's what happened last time. No tone intended.

Currently the poll on nzherald.co.nz is Do You Want NZ's Voting System To Change From MMP?
After 6059 votes it's 49% Yes, 51% No.
I see some awesome disinformation campaigns ahead of us.

On nzherald.co.nz:
"Breaking News: MMP referendum to be held with election in 2011... details soon"
*Bangs head repeatedly on desk*

I agree with you that MTS's coverage is the least relevant part of this whole schemozzle, but front-page race-baiting? Come on, its not as if there's not plenty of real shit the Herald should be pimp-slapped for without going there.
Like I said, it fits a pattern. I've lost count of the number of front-page headlines against Maori the Herald's run over the years that amount to little more than hysteria. To me, there is a clear agenda (even if that agenda is simply 'this sells newspapers') in placing these anti-Maori, lightweight articles on the front page instead of buried somewhere inside the paper (or not published at all).
I don't want to be someone who yells racist and shuts down all debate, and I'm not sure the Herald editors are racist, but I do believe they have a motive when it comes to Maori issues and their choice of headlines and placement is evidence of that.
