disinformation and hacking count as methods of warfare these days.

    CyOPs?
(add 150 - CL - and it becomes very one-eyed!)

a case can be made for public service social media

Perhaps NZ Post should look into as they slowly dismantle their traditional model.
I see today that NZ Post shops seem to be pulling out of their symbiotic relationship with Kiwi Bank branches (well at least near me at the Palms Mall in Shirley) - I can't see the bank branch paying mall rent on purely banking traffic - not sure who is 'consciously uncoupling' from whom , but it just seems plain daft!

David Farrar’s Curia Market Research firm

    and...

    It’s stinky as all hell.

Seeing it is such an entrenched part of National's 'Old Boys network' perhaps it should more aptly be called OBscuria Market Research...

One wonders if its naming as Curia is in relation to the Roman Catholic court of justice, and other public tribunes - albeit self-styled like the self-serving and misleadingly named 'Taxpayers Union' (also founded by Farrar)...
...or was it by the more obscure route of an anagram of 'Auric' - an ion of gold but also (and more probably) a tribute to the Bond villain, Goldfinger - Auric is his first name...

  • Speaker: Are we seeing the end of MSM,…,

The NZ Listener (and its German owners) don’t seem to be giving the current Govt or PM Jacinda Ardern much love or coverage I note.
The Nats got plenty of covers and interviews and profiles during their Reign of Error but not so much for the Coalition…
    I wonder why that is…

The Man with the Golden Gun thinks his reasons are genuine. I dont.

There's something slightly unnerving about this sentence:

"This gun is very special, it's priceless," Xu said from his home in Huapai where he lives with his wife, two children and various stuffed animals he has killed over the years.

I mean killing 'stuffed animals' just seems wrong and did he kill two children?

    Bang Bang

The shooting community are by and large your average kiwi bloke (and a few lasses too) who enjoy the solitude of shooting in isolation or small groups.
    ...
It is how to keep the public safe from that 0.01% is the question.

How indeed? - I draw everyone's attention to:
    https://thespinoff.co.nz/society/10-04-2019/swastikas-and-semi-automatics-auckland-gun-club-neighbours-speak-out/

This is (of course) the gun club that Paula Bennett officially opened mere days after passing on 13 of the 20 recommendations on gun safety and laws.
(you can find on line evidence of how happy the Gun Lobby was with her performance at the time)
The above article says that 6% of this club's members are policemen and for some reason the locals complaints aren't being heeded by the police - something needs to change there and soon - otherwise we might get the idea that the police are complicit in support for this bully culture.

I still feel for the people trying to do the 10-day Vipassana meditation retreat, when they can hear constant rapid fire in the meditation hall - they have been there for 30 years and the gun club are Johnny come latelies who fudged their applications for use (as I understand it) there are fuller articles at Spinoff and elsewhere.

    Aitch to oh!*
I recently revised the 'Water Cycle' diagram for a CAFCA Watchdog cover, to address the NZ (and Chchch) situation - along with butterfly wings in the desert, I think there has to be some 'chaos effect' ramifications of removing water completely out of the local cycle, maybe not immediately, but as the say a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state.....

Jacinda Ardern denies pushing for crusaders to change name after christchurch attacks,,,
.. the twitter trolls are having orgasms over this….

Mea Culpa – I wrote to the Crusaders management the day after the Mosque shootings here – exhorting them to front foot the issue of their name and to show some leadership and compassion, now that their inappropriate name was past its use-by-date – I’m sure many people wrote, but I note the Crusaders management use many of the words and phrases I used in their press releases .
I note the usual suspects (the odious) Mike Yardley and petition starters don’t seem to be able to come up with a better argument for retaining the name than ‘It was ever thus’ (well since 1996)
with useful insights like “There’s no connection, apart from a historical name that really has no association at all.” (so they have finally got rid of the sword waving blood red horse men with flaming Templar crosses on their livery – hardly redolent of medieval slaughter at all,… right?)
But you can’t take a benefit from the ‘verb’ without taking a hit from the ‘noun’ and history!
Of course the ever tolerant and inclusive Yardley intones:

Meanwhile, just as the Crusaders rugby team have been the subject of an over-reactive pile-on by the warriors of woke, determined to takedown their name, the purge campaign knows no bounds.
As I predicted a fortnight ago, the city’s name is now under attack by the same virtue-signallers. This drippy liberal brigade is now rounding on the most towering Christchurch symbol of all: the Christ Church Cathedral.

Dunkin’ (Donut) Garner also peddles more of the same

They’ve ditched the horses, so the symbolism has gone. Now let’s get back to the footy, says Duncan Garner.

Oh did I mention Mike Hosking excusing Joe Biden last week - wittering on about 'social morays!!' - plonker!
These people are such shallow thinkers.
    sigh…
