This sort of thing is why I keep up my subscription even though I haven't had much time to read Public Address for a while. Thank you for a little bit of light against the dark.

I'm surprised I haven't seen 'journalism' mentioned. Feels like I've heard that word far more often than in previous years.

Cheers for the link to the Anna Coddington/Dick Johnson collaboration. Maybe you missed this a few years back? Such fun, catchy as:

Great piece, thanks for sharing Russell. Is it just me or did you & Jordan Luck look like brothers in that photo with the other Dance Exponents?!

This news makes me sad, as a lifelong Listener reader prone to wincing at mistakes. I wonder if I'll be noticing more of those in future.

Hard News: Friday Music: Dancing Fool, in reply to
What’s the music like?
I've only got the Wellington one to go on, they seem to have a different person in charge of playlisting it each time so it does vary. But they post their playlists on their Facebook page after the events - below is the one for the night that I went:
Lorde – Million Dollar Bills
Cornershop – Brimful Of Asha
Crystal Castles – Year Of Silence
The Kills – Cheap And Cheerful
The Smiths – This Charming Man
Paloma Faith – Upside Down
Justin Timberlake – Señorita
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Black Tongue
Battles – Ice Cream (Featuring Matias Aguayo)
Peaches – Boys Wanna Be Her
Hot Chip – Don't Dance
The Hives – Tick Tick Boom
Gwen Stefani – What You Waiting For?
N.E.R.D. – Everyone Nose (All The Girls Standing In The Line For The Bathroom)
Vampire Weekend – Diane Young
Lykke Li – Get Some
SJD – Baby You're Oh So
Basement Jaxx – Where's Your Head AtI think I only knew four or five of the songs, recognised a few other artists (although Peaches made me think of Girlschool for some reason), but most of them were pretty danceable and I didn't hate anything - Justin Timberlake was probably the least enjoyable, Ms Stefani & Basement Jaxx the most fun. I thanked the playlister afterwards for playing heaps of female vocalists, I find that tends to be unusual on the rare occasions I'm out for a boogie.
Is there somewhere nice to sit down and take a break? (I see they’re a bit stern about talking on the dancefloor.)
I expect that depends on the venue, and if it's Wellington, how much you like sitting on a wooden floor! They're currently using the upstairs of Thistle Hall and had no seating that I could see. There were toilets available downstairs but it's pretty spartan. I gather the point is to go there and have a dance, not to catch up with your mates :)

So late to this, but felt the need to respond after all the 'yes, that!' moments I had about the clips people posted.
I'm pretty self conscious about dancing but last week a friend persuaded me to try a local No Lights No Lycra night - an hour of dancing in the near-dark in comfy clothes with a bunch of strangers. It was great, I reckon I'll be back. If I get around to making playlist suggestions, there are a few on here that would be perfect!
This was my top Scritti Politti song - a friend recorded the video off RTR and we used to play it repeatedly till her mum recorded over it by accident (Cupid & Psyche 85 was one of my first records):
And my fave Young MC song - love the end of the story:

Capture: Spring is Like a Perhaps Hand, in reply to
So close, and yet I still haven’t bumped into you. ;-)
ETA: Were you out in Manurewa? This in Winter Garden in domain.
Sorry, hadn't looked here for a few days.
So close, and yet so far... my waterlily was at the Wellington Botanic Garden! Haven't been to the Manurewa gardens in decades but I sometimes visit the Winter Garden when in Auckland. Always loved the secret little fish ponds in the greenhouses.

Those are amazing Nora!
I saw some incredibly vibrant orange & yellow bromeliad blooms at the Botanic Garden begonia house today (similar to these, but they were just a bit too full of debris to make a good photo. Did manage to get this waterlily looking pretty though - with bonus cobweb :)
