Enjoyed your piece Russell. Made me think fondly of old Deep Throat BBS days.

Your mention of Waves struck a chord with me – the album was well played at our student flat in Christchurch in 1975, and over the years I’ve looked for another copy in vain. Big ups to my local record store Evil Genius – a great combination of coffee and second-hand vinyl goodness.

Just thought I'd add my voice to the summertime recommended music/reads. Patti Smith's Just Kids is curiously satisfying, especially the way the story is intertwined with with Robert Mappelthorpe's. Also works as kind of extended liner notes to Twelve. David Byrne's How Music Works is finding its way around the readers in our house. His collaboration with St Vincent has been on the stereo a few times this summer. Finally, a plug for Ernest Cline's Ready Player One -- a regular feast of Eighties cultural and music references. Perfect accompaniment to Casey Kasem's American Top 40.

Word of the year -- I'm with 'hashtag'.
Word of the decade -- how about 'GFC' ? Strictly speaking an acronym, I know... -
Russell -- I'd also like to add my belated congrats to the long list of well-wishers. It's always a pleasure to read your posts, and even more to chat when we get to see each other in Wellington. All power to your pixels :)

Hard News: This Is Not A Complicated Issue, in reply to
Absolutely! My daughter has enjoyed the services of a note-taker for two years of her university course to date. I can't believe that if she was elected a Member of Parliament she would be denied a service that our cash-strapped tertiary education system is able to offer. Oh, wait a minute -- was this something that the Student Association used to organise?

Lots of memories, especially of working with Roger and Hamish to get those early EPs and 45s into the hands of Wellingtonians -- see http://www.redeye.co.nz/ref1.htm
