Oh, bike parking! Slim pickings at best in central Auckland.
This is what you get at the Countdown Quay Street in the CBD. Someone who probably doesn't ride bikes managed to install it incorrectly and too close together. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Other places with dishwasher rack parking: Westfields Downtown (in front of Dick Smith's), New World Vic Park.
There is still nothing along High or Lorne Streets but hopefully that will change when they get converted into shared spaces.
Nothing along Carlton Gore Road in Newmarket, despite the new separated cycleways. I spent a good ten minutes trying to figure out what to do in front of the Mind Lab. (Tip: use their carpark on the other side of the building.)
Auckland could do well with the Cycle Hoops that WCC has been installing in various places around their CBD. It's a quick win using existing infrastructure.
Wellington also seem to have more Bikerakks which could be a nice public-private solution.

I am glad that my crash has been logged by NZTA (I am the Williamson Ave/Mackelvie St marker). Photos of crash aftermath – nothing gory but ouchies.
I see that there's another one further down from me which suggests that drivers aren't stopping at the stop signs. I hate cycling downhill where there are lots of side streets that feed into them exactly due to this reason. >:(

Ew, I wouldn't want to be wearing someone else's old helmet. I don't know if it's road-worthy and sweat and germs. Also, size.
I upgraded my bike from a cheap beater to a more suitable town bike within a year — helmet did not need an upgrade.

Cycle Action Auckland are doing quite a lot of advocate work in this area, as are people like Pippa Coom on the Waitemata Local Board.
The council tends to be glacial to act on their recommendations but there have been a number of wins.
I do encourage people to sign up as members of CAA — I am — and support the work they are doing.
