Hard News: Cycle infrastructure: the…, in reply to
Thanks for the map! I have been wondering how the NW path connects up to the SE one. Will be handy for me. I am often heading home in Mt Roskill from the West. I am going to try it out tonight!

Don't ruin the fun! That is a thoroughly enjoyable piece of spam.

Hard News: Fear of Cycling, in reply to
On shared pedestrian/cycle paths, I’m always twitchy around small children, who can change direction really quickly and don’t always look. That requires keeping my speed slow enough (and leaving enough room to dodge) that I can stop if I have to. That speed is considerably below what most cyclists can manage without trying too hard, so I’m not sure shared pedestrian/cycleways are without drawbacks for bike-commutes.
And dogs! Even more unpredictable than kids plus they have a lead that blocks off the space on one side of them. I am always ready to step dead around dogs.
After reading an earlier post on this thread drawing the analogy between fast bikes - peds & fast cars - bikes I have slowed down around people on shared paths. I used to go by quickish, which felt totally safe to me, but might not have felt that way to them.

I had to look up what Bete Noir meant, but I am glad that I did - always more comfortable being able to hold onto your prejudices ;)

Like the little blue car
More often the tradie in a great big ute, in my experience.
For me it is dark coloured Audis and BMWs that always seem to cut me up. Given that the "boogieman"is is so different for others I might need to reconsider my stereotyping.

I have really been enjoying From Zero Russell, thanks!

Another reason for voting Leave: Your first memory is of being in a bomb shelter listening to V2 rockets burble overhead, knowing that if the noise stops they are falling somewhere near you.
Given this context I think it is reasonable to hold the position that the Germans had two goes at dominating Europe by force and they are now doing it via political means. [To be clear this is not my position!]

After reading this post I sought out the new path on m way home today. Magic. I will test it out in rush hour tomorrow, but reckon this will save me from the daily nightmare of all the unphased traffic lights down Queen St!

Speaker: Living under bridges, in reply to
Hi James,
There is a wide shared space for pedestrians and cyclists on the north side of the bridge.
I work in Takapuna and live in Mt Roskill and cycle home this way a couple of times a week. It is a pretty sweet ride. The old upper harbour highway approach to the bridge is a lovely wide road with no traffic since they built the motorway. On the other side you ride through hobsonville point then take back roads all the way through to royal road. It is not too easy to follow the first time you ride it, but the sequence of streets is:
Squadron
Buckley
Wiseley
Marina View
West Harbour
Moire
Royal
