Interesting to note (from BBC) that a lot of the Labour rally came in remain-supporting seats. Gonna be interesting to see how that is reconciled with the spineless stance on Article 50.
And I still can't believe they let Zac Goldsmith back in. Only just, but still...
I guess Ruth Davidson's may start looking south for a career move soon.

Yeah, too interesting. Shows some things really don't change... Europe always has the potential to wreck things for a Tory PM. And I am finding it hard to feel good about the Northern Irish unionists being in a pivotal position. Who knows, maybe we will get a 1974-two-elections-in-a-year situation again? Brexit Britain certainly has such potential.

My abiding memory of the time... the obsession of Norm Jones and his ilk with sex acts - the "bill to legalise sodomy", etc. I still don't get why some political pundits would praise him as a "character". And the anti-bill petition on the counter at Don Oliver's gym in Glen Eden, with its implied threat. Watching a petition-wielding Sallie approach a skinhead on Queen Street, and said skinhead gleefully scrawling. Different times, I hope.

Well, I've enjoyed your irregular musings, especially those from Scotland, but great to have you back more fully. Must be quite a thing, creating in the same space with a completely different view out the window.
I hope I'll catch you in Dunsandel in November/December... and I'll even shift a few more paving stones, should you choose to accept. -
Hard News: The good guys, in reply to
It was cool to see Williams et al being so accommodating, but not so much to read his later comments about how he’d have happily given the guy a hiding.
Agreed there. SBW's generosity is undeniable, but he had time to think before that haughty comment. Guy was doing his job (for not much more than minimum wage, I'll wager), not a lot of time to stop and think in such circumstances and pitch invasions in a UK sports context have had their malign moments. Perhaps SBW could extend his noblesse oblige to making sure no negative consequences for the guy, as well as the kid.

Coincidentally perhaps, man-hugs are on the always-great Stephen Collins's agenda this week, at a time certain English blokes require consolation:

The scale of the victory was a shock. But the poison pill Labour swallowed for the Tories - delivering to Scotland the pre-referendum devo-max pledge, with only Labour having something to lose from the Tories' subsequent shifting of the goalposts - put Miliband on the back foot well before the start of the campaign. The Tories' playing of the SNP-Red Ed fear factor followed on from the divide-and-rule flavour of their austerity programme, now likely to go high-octane. And Labour, it must be said, let the Tories drive the campaign agenda. Still, there's entertainment ahead (we'll need it) in seeing how the Scottish and European questions are handled, and in watching UKIP and the Greens find common cause on electoral reform.

The Mail rant is plain bizarre, but so original that an actual fan may have been involved in some way, with the compulsory editorial outrage added to the mix (although the blame for migrants seems to have been skipped). And I salute the picture researcher. What wouldn't I have given to have been at that Crystal Palace hippies-in-the-pond fest while Lou did his leather-glam thing? Or Lou alongside Lynyrd Skynrd in '74?
Here's the Economist take, by the way: http://www.economist.com/news/obituary/21588844-lou-reed-songwriter-and-musician-died-october-27th-aged-71-walk-wild-side

Great little film and fond memories, of an early-90s vintage. Most recent Bonnington dining experience (well, a couple of years back now) featured an unpeeled potato wrapped in filo. Gentrification…
Speaking of which, the Heygate as it was it not to be mourned, but the “regeneration” of replacement is, too often, almost social cleansing. Seems developers can promise a certain level of social housing… and then simply cut back, on alleged profit/loss grounds. What’s more the local council, if it weren’t for local action groups, would simply roll over…
