Thank you, Russell...
As you might expect, the author is particularly proud of the last line in poem VI. Possibly one of the best lines of poetry ever written, in my opinion. I expect that (in the future) it will be compared to Eliot's 'The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock'.
Incidentally, how much better Eliot's poetry would have been if he'd had an economist to help with the editing. 'Sedated' is so much more medically accurate than 'etherized'.

Very pleased that my blog-->book software was of some use to you, Graham. And very happy for the opportunity to have an early look at 'The Idiot Boy...". It's a great read, folks -- particularly the title piece, which is a real cracker!

The way I see it, the good news is that the amendment was originally designed to close a loophole in the crimes act that a small number of people were using after seriously assaulting their kids...
Well, yes -- ahem -- there is that...

It's interesting to compare this with Proposition 8 in California -- another case where the majority were voting to take away the human rights of a minority.
On the one hand, this case seems worse, as the minority in question (i.e. children) don't even have the right to vote at all. On the other hand, happily, the majority wasn't actually a majority of registered voters -- and the referendum here was non-binding.
I guess you've got to take your good news where you can find it.

What is scary is that these little old ladies were probably (amongst others) bikie girls years ago...well...not that many years ago and they could be the first of a wave of THAT youth reaching THIS age...
You have the most disturbing theories, Ross...

Given your recent track record, though, I'm really looking forward to lunch tomorrow.
Ha -- if you don't mind talking to an (ex-) engineer!
Just remembered that -- a year or so back -- a parked car-load of teenagers threw a beer can on our front lawn. I asked them to pick it up. They did.
Oh, I shall have fun presenting my anec-data to Garth McVicar...

... I spotted someone at the intersection outside our flat chuck a complete set of McDonald's rubbish out of the window. I ... managed to hiff the whole lot back through the driver's window just as the light went green.
You are my hero, dude!
That course of action did occur to me -- but I was hindered by the fact that I was dealing with three elderly ladies. Somehow didn't seem very nice.

The funny thing is that "sweltering hot" in Berkeley is pretty rare - there's a tongue of fog that sneaks across the bay in the evenings - a natural air conditioner...
Hmmm... I guess Antarctica would be the equivalent natural air conditioner in Dunedin...

Which led me to ponder that Barry Humphries' locating of Edna Everage as coming from Moonee Ponds was probably exercising a modicum of Greek knowledge himself.
Ha -- seems like just the sort of thing that Humphries would do...
