Freezing cold night in any city with cobbled streets, and there they all are: pelmet miniskirts, bare legs, boob tubes, tottery high heels. Er, why??!
Because that's what is regarded as "hot" or "sexy" and we want to be attractive. I don't know why women dress in such uncomfortable gear, maybe to be attractive to men, or other women, perhaps because of standards applied via the media. But I think it's the rare woman who will dress this way purely for herself. And that bothers me.
By all means, for whatever reason women dress themselves, there's no reason to excuse harrasment, but I do really question why women are dressing in ways that are ideally suited to appeal to the male sexual gaze.

Yeah, who would have thought that the women who burned their bras did so for women to wear thongs, corselettes and high heels.
I love watching 70's movies where the leading woman, though attracttive and slim, has flesh that wobbles. You can tell she's never met a gym machine in her life. You don't realise just how pumped and surgically enhanced modern celebs are until you see old movies.

You know, the other thing that bugs me is where you see the "ironic" women as sex objects adds. Like the Primo milk bouncing bikini women. When did it become okay to make women into objects for our own emancipation?

Thanks for sharing about those walnuts Jack :)

Well my mother has religiously bought every Listener since before I was born and I miss Bogor.

After having four babies, I see my breasts as more of a utility thing, rather than sexual objects. Even now, with my boys getting older, my breasts are still a source of cuddles and comfort for them.

I'm talking about harrassment, not a simple sexual overture which is then declined.

My favorite Listener article was about the new poverty of the middle class - Oh noes, we can't afford to redo our kitchen or have an overseas holiday, oh the humanity!

Oh, I thought it was about her assets.

"Ahhh, we've got an APB out of control down on the Strip. Could all local units attend."
"Dear God! Not another out of control penis brain running amok. I bet it was that Hart woman's mortgage falling out of it's dress again. Those liquored up investment portfolios can't keep their greasy hands to themselves."
