The Sir Dougy Graham award goes to - Sideshow Bob.
http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/9565051/Bob-Parker-knightedAs for John Hamilton & Civil Defence. Johnny is as Deserving as Sideshow. Civil Defence must be disestablished and roll its functions into the NZDF Reserves. This will free up another night on the Probus calendar.

On my way to a mates place last night I saw the Loo Roll Cathedral full to overflowing with parishioners. On the way home at 11pm the homeless gather like moths to the flame around the Sallys Coffee van in Latimer Square.
I thought I might have picked up a cab on the way but the CBD is a place even the homeless don't go after dark these days.
On the plus side I got to walk across Victoria Square for the first time since the quakes. It's now a secret garden no-ones sees anymore. -
I applaud the sentence of Home D. here

Named, shamed and restrained, by the conditions of his sentence. I just wished the Justices would have as fairer view of the normal suspects before them.

There were always stories about various Cop Shops in Christchurch. At their most benign it was the cops signing the ceiling of the cafeteria when they leave/visit the South Cop Shop.
This is the graffiti of public property you & I paid for. In other towns kids have been stabbed to death or sentenced to prison for such acts.
The other stories are consistent with Meyers actions but not limited to him.
This report should read as the rough draft for another Underbelly series. -
Promotions are at risk, the truth must not come out.

Passed the surprize work place drug & alcohol test last Friday morning.
I had a couple of Twisted Hop Pilsners the night before, alas two co-workers had a joint on the previous weekend .
These guys passed surprize drug tests about 6 months ago and work well.
I don't want to work where guys are under the influence and testing a corpse is too late, but firing guys for what happened last weekend is just wrong (accepting that heavy users are a problem).
Any suggestions on what a safe drug use testing regime would look like?

A bit of spin from those in the force who think they're in the running to be the next Top Cop spot.
Sources have told The Press that Gordon Stanley Meyer's supervisors at Christchurch South police station were not told about the 2007 complaint until after his 2011 offending came to light.
Police National Headquarters said last night there were no "lawful grounds" to tell them about it.

Cart (carriage) before horse:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/the-press/news/city-centre/9422490/Trams-back-on-trackThis will slow the rebuild, add expense and danger to it.
Now we have to deal with live overhead wires and the restriction of working close to rail lines in a city that is still years away from recovery of horizontal infrastructure and general construction. On the plus side we have a tram that goes nowhere & you'll see not much.

The next Police Commissioner should look something like this:

Not sure why the fight still goes on with the failed local politician.
I do hope this means he loses his position on the Canterbury District Health Board.
