I think she’s a terrible choice for their press secretary for any of IMP. They’re going to have some wacky moments with the characters that they’ve got there and the background of the parties and their union.
I’m not so sure. She’s close to many of the candidates, she’s well known in the media, she understands politics better than most having been an MP.
It might be useful to point out again that Pam is Harre's press sec only. My Internet Party press releases come from John Mitchell and there'ssomeone else looking after the other candidates.
Re Kyle's point -- and here I am defending the Internet Party again -- the candidates I know are good, together people who don't need minding. Compared to the Conservative, NZ First and Act lists, they're not really likely to be problematic. I'd pick Sykes and Minto to be more likely to blow up if they made Parliament.
But I'm hearing that there are some strains in the marriage-of-convenince, especially around policy and branding.

Mike Hosking’s characterisation of the Internet-Mana launch is, as you might expect, a work of blithering idiocy from a man who wasn’t there and doesn’t care.
He’s pretty much 100% party talking points at the moment. Incredible.

Shame Rino Tirikatene didn’t have a better grasp on all that in Monday night’s Native Affairs debate.
Mind you, none of the candidates really impressed. Te Tai Tonga is a vast electorate with hugely varying needs and I wonder whether the system is serving those voters very well.
But Jodi Ihaka’s report did give a peek into a largely untold story – Maori in post-earthquake Christchurch.

It wasn't solicited as such. I asked readers for guest posts, particularly about electorate battles.
What’s crazy is not that you should be required to carry the promoter statement, but that practically every opinion piece in the Herald shouldn’t have to.
Well, yeah.

God grief. Graeme Edgeler has helpfully advised me that on the basis of discussions he's had with the Electoral Commission, this morning's guest post by James Dann about why he's standing in Ilam should carry a promoter statement, as if it were an electoral advertisement.
The same would not, however, apply if James' post were to be published as a newspaper column. This is strange.

What do “tribes” have to do with it? Russell and I have been having *cough* free and frank exchanges of views for years, but even if Fiona, Jimmy and Leo weren’t friends I don’t take cheap shots at them to get at Russell. He repays the courtesy. It’s just what you do if you’re not a complete rectum on the body politic.

Those were standard articles about a politician and it wasn’t during an election campaign.
Those mags were also central to the media strategy that introduced Key to New Zealanders. Not their fault at all: they were presented with "at home with" stories, their stock in trade, that Clark was notoriously squeamish about. They're actually quite even-handed when it comes to political figures.
