And in yesterday's developments: Whyte's trainwreck of an interview on Native Affairs, where he revealed his "ignorance" (his word) of the sector on which he has been lecturing by never having heard of Whanau Ora.
To be fair, I think many of us would be hard pressed to describe Whanau Ora in any great detail, but to never have even heard the words?
I actually thought the most remarkable point was when, pressed on how inequality of opportunity could be conquered, the first thing he said was "a good education". It didn't seem to occur to him that in railing against tertiary admission schemes in his speech, he was set against that very thing.

I think the rumour is being put about by the same person who tried to convince me Steve Hansen is looking at Kim Dotcom as a possible replacement for Aaron Smith. There are just a few eligibility issues, I understand.

Hearing is an interesting thing with my younger son. He has the same ears as I do, but I know he processes sound really differently. It's one of those things that manifests as a special ability or a disability, depending on context. He is put in psychological pain by unexpected loud noises, and a couple of experiences indicate that even with earplugs he's not going to handle live rock music. He sometime can't filter background noise, which makes many forms of socialising difficult.
On the other hand, he can hear through doors and I've sometimes wondered if he has perfect pitch.

I’d heard a whisper that Slater is after a good list spot and Collins has promised him one once Key (who prefers not to have any more convicted crims in his caucus than strictly necessary) is out of the way.
That would be a disaster. His opponents will only need to start quoting his own written words back to him and take it from there.

It’s not the first time this has happened to Lisa. She needs to set the rules then terminate the interview if people break them.
Easier said than done, of course. But yeah -- in that situation you need to very firmly establish who's boss and whose show it is.

It was essential for me to try and understand the experience of my two ASD sons, in order to anticipate the impact of various situations and stimuli on them, and thus guide our own actions as parents – and to fend off some of what we we got from special education people who really had no clue what was going on.
In the end, the big insight was simple: that their experience of the world is wholly different to mine.
But, yeah, I think being-disabled-for-a-day stunts are of limited utility.
