Ironically, Chelle was working on a post around these issues for Access, but hasn't been well enough to finish it.

Really nerdy ESPN article comparing Saturday's rugby test stats with the recent records of the respective teams. The All Blacks were down in various ball-in-play stats, but actually did better on scrums and lineouts than usual.

One would like to think we’ve moved on on both counts, I.e. We don’t want offensively targeted laws, and we want to respect the reasons/choices of the person who is pregnant. Ergo: no ‘reasons’ should be mandated.
Yes. Even here, we've been talking about distinctions between pregnancy as a result of contraceptive failure vs carelessness, which gets us into "deserving poor" territory. It shouldn't matter.

Te Ara has a good not-too-long history of abortion rights in New Zealand.
I'm sure I'm not alone in mistakenly remembering the 1977 Abortion, Contraception and Sterilisation Act as a victory, when in fact it actually made abortion more difficult to access. But its almighty fudge did seem to draw a line under what had often been an pleasant public debate.

You're in peril of mansplaining there, Craig. Hilary is a woman and she is firmly pro-choice. But this does have really difficult resonances for people with disabilities and their parents. You get into the territory of determining what lives are valid, which is a terrible place.

Of course the Rugby World Cup IRB bears no resemblance to FIFA? No sausages for Rugby then? Thank goodness for that!
The IRB has its faults and vested interests, but there's really no comparison to FIFA -- it's not a corrupt organisation. The IOC would possibly be a better comparison.

It was traumatic as hell even then, I can hardly imagine what it’s like here.
The people in the system are generally decent and caring, but it's still the wrong system.
