I'm inclined to say 'photo or it didn't happen', but then again it might by best left to the imagination. :-)
There are photos, but I am a bit wary of someone ripping an image out of context and starting a Twitter outrage. Which is a bit sad, but a reality.

Thank you, Paul. Any other memories of this kind are warmly welcomed. One of the great things about Audioculture is that telling one story brings out another.
As regards mods, I think they were strong in Christchurch. The first I heard of the Stagedoor club was in the early 80s, from former Christchurch Star rock writer Rob White telling me about going there in the 60s and playing in one of the bands, the Cuban Heels.

There’s a whole heap of young Dunedin bands that deserve to be noticed by the big boys in the US, too. Trick Mammoth, Astro Children, Males, Not From Space, Space Bats Attack, Strange Harvest, Opposite Sex ,etc, etc…
Yes, Dunedin seems to have plenty going on right now.

The Billboard listicle is interesting. Lorde wasn’t really part of any Auckland music scene
But she did emerge from, as Pete Johnston, father of Eddie, put it here, a "peer group" -- albeit one that wasn't particularly visible to outsiders. It wasn't like she was all alone. That mixtape gives a good snapshot of who those people are. They're not all in Auckland, but I think there's a certain sensibility uniting them.

*ahem* Street Chant’s debut album Means was released in 2010, the same year they won the Critics Choice Prize.
