Furthermore, we’re talking about people who investigate rape complaints, here. That’s not a job notorious for the requirement to grip 15 year old boys. It’s about doing basic investigative work, which requires no strength at all.
It's a job that requires very specific skills in handling victims without re-traumatising them. Skills that do not seem to have been displayed or even possessed by the interviewing officer in this case. Grip strength isn't one of them.

I’m normally one of the people on here defending the police, but there’s not much to be said about this. How the officer in charge can say “no girls have been brave enough to make a complaint” when one had two years ago.
And as I noted on the previous page, the Waitemata superintendent is now saying only that the other three complaints had "not progressed" to a formal stage. I have a feeling we may find out that formal complaints were not exactly encouraged.

Possibly. Waitemata police district reported a 7.8% fall in sexual assault offences last year. How much of that is cases not getting to court?
I also thought it was significant that the Waitemata superintendent told Kathryn Ryan this morning that the other three complaints "had not progressed" to a formal stage. No longer that no victim was "brave" enough.
And yesterday the police finally sought and obtained a fucking search warrant. I refuse to believe that this somehow suddenly became possible because they talked to two of the gang again.

The latest version, given to the Herald's Jared Savage, is that there were four complaints but only one formal complaint.
I would not be surprised to find that the three others were somehow talked out of formal complaints.
And yesterday, after two years, the Waitakere police finally thought to obtain a search warrant.

Patrick Gower has just said on TV3 that that the Police Commissioner Peter Marshall gave “incorrect information” about the case to the Police Minister Anne Tolley this week. Which is the polite way of saying that he was either lying or has been lied to.

Now, after four formal complaints, from children, about the same rape gang , they have seen fit to seek a search warrant.
