New Zealand’s screen industry has three halves. Two of them are in crisis, if you believe the media last week. The third half is Peter Jackson, which is in vigorous health.
The two crisis-prone halves are looked after by two state-supported Wellington organisations. The Film Commission is responsible for encouraging and financing the production of feature films being made in New Zealand by New Zealanders. Film New Zealand is responsible for enticing offshore productions to come here.

Full disclosure, as his cousin, I’m extremely biased, but Daniel is a stupidly talented artist, and Egospect is an amazing album; I’m please he’s a finalist. All three sound grand actually. This sea of talent is inspiring.

David Dallas’ new album “Falling Into Place” is brilliant. It reminds me of the Native Tongue stuff from the late ’80s, and also a bit of the Death Row sound from the early ’90s, but it mainly sounds like a product of Auckland and New Zealand in 2013.
Thanks for reminding me about that. He's a talented man.

Also you should know you have been ‘banned’ from The Neo-Kalishnikovs blog. Awesome.
For those not in the know ‘The Neos’ are NZs best blog-troll band. They are pissed off at everything and it is thoroughly entertaining. They have really been ramping it up of late, subtly implying death threats etc.
It's like it's some sort of conceptual art project where they burn a new bridge every week. Very entertaining to follow, but I don't think they see it that way.

- DJ Shadow is actually a native of California.- And as Peter has let you know, the Picassos play the KA tomorrow night.

Ed Kuepper was magnificent tonight. I got there in time to see him play 'Swing for the Crime' from the third Saints album, then 'Messin' With the Kid' from the first, which actually made me cry. Then he played 'Everything I've Got Belongs to You' because Richard Langston asked him to on Twitter.
Television? Had their moments, but largely lacked urgency.
