Can I start a movement that says it is OK to grab the smart phone of anyone who holds it up at a concert and throw it as far as you can across the room. Just pay attention to the music and appreciate it instead of trying to get a bad recording of it on your stupid genital extension.
Disagree! Even though the sound’s a bit ropey, it’s a good thing someone captured that Pink Frost cover for posterity. And I was really pleased with the video I got of @Peace doing ‘Home’ at last year’s Splore.
Usual caveats apply, of course: don’t impede anyone else, spending the whole gig holding up your phone is lame, etc. But I don’t think it’s a bad thing per se.
Otoh, I barely touched my phone all day at Laneway – I often have no wish whatsoever to be fiddling with a gadget in a setting like that.

Thanks for that review Russ. Flume and Nicolas Jaar would’ve been my must-see acts of that lineup.
I can pretty confidently say you'd have loved them both. I've been thrashing the Flume album since. It's great that this sort of thing is hit material.

I thought it was Russ Le Roq…Indeed.
I liked Russ -- he'd come up to Rip It Up in his canary-yellow zoot suit and drop off his listings -- although I didn't claim to understand what he thought he was doing. He was sincere and hard-working and his bands were truly terrible.

I do. And Alfies and the Out bookshop, where we used to buy amyl.
There were not so many people in the city back then, and I think the gay community, obliged to dwell on the perimeter, provided infrastructure for everyone else who felt a bit different.
I still have something of this relationship with gay men and lesbians my age and older. We share some sense of otherness.

That’s up near Warkworth, isn’t it? Always wanted to go there, as we had friends living in the hills above Warkworth for a while. Is it worth the visit?
It's fantastic. Lots of great photo ops too.
But ... the hole, quarried out and flooded decades ago, gets very deep, very quickly. Okay for kids who can swim, others will need an eye kept on them.
