There’s a hell of a difference between opposing the institution of the monarchy and extending the individual members of the royal family the same basic respect we expect to be treated with ourselves.
There really, really is.
The central fact here is that there's a young woman suffering a distressing condition as a consequence of pregnancy. Everyone -- the British papers, the Australian radio dickheads and anyone inclined to make politics of it -- would do well to STFU and let her get through it.
Not that there's much chance of that, sadly.

Yet again, iTunes’ handover to the local iTunes store is broke. That’s supposed to be a global link from the website for the album.

I actually bought my copy as WAV files from Juno Download in the UK. They have some UI issues, but it’s quite a shop.

Kishi Bashi has been my find of 2012 - astounding musician, and I've been throwing him at anyone who walks nearby. Recently or soon to be reviewed in the NZ Herald by Graham Reid.
Wow. I can't quite work out of it's my thing or not, but that's strikingly characterful music. Fascinating.

Sorry to quibble, but (IMHO) it shows what a a horrible state music is at if this makes the list.
I knew it would annoy people, but I actually played that album quite a lot.
having said that NZ wise I really like the singles Street Chant have released this year

In general, there’s discretion, and cannabis crime is a classic case where discretion really should be exercised.
It's exercised all the time -- the police don't wade in and make arrests at J Day, they periodically overlook marijuana sales and consumption at the Daktory, and they may or may not overlook minor possession, depending on how they're feeling that day. Jenny Shipley made it an offence to sell cannais paraphernalia, but you can still buy bongs all over town.
There's a reason for this: zero-tolerance policing of cannabis laws would make prohibition untenable.
The problem is that when prosecution is so often discretionary, you get what happened to Green Cross and Stephen McIntyre, and OTT events like Operation Lime. It's not a good formula.
