Police to investigate complaint by Dr Russel Norman re GCSB
October 2, 2012, 11:01 amDr Russel Norman has laid a complaint under section 216(B) of the Crimes Act alleging illegality of work undertaken by the Government Communications Bureau.
The Police Commissioner Peter Marshall has asked Deputy Commissioner Mike Bush to appoint a senior police investigator to assess and investigate the complaint received from Dr Norman last week.
The Commissioner has further engaged the services of Kristy McDonald QC to provide an overview of this assessment and resultant investigation. This will lead to Ms McDonald's review of any recommendations that may arise. She will then make her own recommendations to the Commissioner's office.
"Ms McDonald is a senior counsel with more than 30 years experience in criminal law, she is a highly regarded Queens Counsel who has been engaged in major prosecutions, so she will provide excellent oversight of the Police work," Commissioner Marshall said.
"We can't put a timeframe on how long this assessment and investigation will take but it will be done as a matter of some urgency," Commissioner Marshall said.

Milne should just have accepted that the way they presented the data around class sizes was misleading. It’s all very well to say there was a weak correlation, but it was a weak correlation they blared from a headline.
And once you'd considered confounding factors -- small classes at special schools and poorly-resourced rural schools -- there just wasn't a story in it.
But I gather Keith and Jonathan Milne had a productive discussion afterwards*, which is a good thing.
*Unfortunately, Keith brought shame on bloggers and data geeks by having his eft-pos bounce at the bar, meaning he had to go begging to the dreaded MSM for a drink. The secret liberal bloggers cabal is considering a formal censure.

Offloading vinyl got us across the line – just – when we were buying our house in 1998.
David Rush, the buyer at Real Groovy (who I knew) gave me pretty good prices. It helped that more than 10 years earlier in London I’d saved a bunch of collectible stuff from going to the incinerator after failing to shift at the the HMV Shop, where I was working. Four copies of the same, mint, Cramps picture disc – that sort of thing.
It fascinates me now to see what old Flying Nun platters are going for at RG. I wonder who’s buying them at $100+?
