Today's New Zealand Herald editorial backs marriage equality, if in an oddly passive way.
And for balance, Bruce Logan is invited in to make some weird arguments against it. Ggiven Logan's previous issues, we ought to be glad that he is only plagiarising his own columns for other newspapers now.
Although the ODT's bio note:
"Bruce Logan is an educator and writer who has been director of the Maxim Institute in New Zealand."
Is more useful than the Herald's:
"Bruce Logan is a former Auckland schoolteacher now living in France."

I think we can rule out basic decency – more likely to be that ACT on Campus put the hard word on him. No enthusiasts for religious conservatism among his enthusiastic electorate helpers, I’ll bet.
I am quite sure this is the case.
For all his posturing, Banks knows the score in such matters.

But context matters too. Perhaps the best possible thing would be to give some red-zoned people the gear and the forum to explain and record their own circumstances.
I'd have probably felt okay about it had I devoted a day to Avonside. It was the feeling of just passing through that made me not wish to take snaps, I think.

As I’ve probably said in other threads, CERA seems to have given no thought to allowing short-to-medium-term solutions in the CBD: pop-up premises that are “temporary” but which could work for several years while bigger projects are worked out and built. “Temporary” destinations will keep the CBD alive; turning it into one big building site will kill it dead.
And yet, even as an occasional visitor, that seems absolutely evident to me. Pop-up ventures lift the environment around them. They're useful and they help people feel they have agency amid all the big decisions being made for them. How could this not be obvious?

It's a hard venue to use -- it has toilets but not many of the other things you need at a gig or event venue (tills, eft-pos, etc) and people ain't using it. And when someone tries, they have their special liquor license refused by the cops. Murray McCully sold us a good one there.
