I fancied it looked a tiny bit like a McCahon.
Actually, it kind of does.
The impression is fostered by the knowledge that he built the structures himself, in rough-hewn timber. It's not hard to perceive similar shapes to those that marked later paintings.

I rode out to Titirangi today, with a brief stop to looking at wondrous junk at Avondale Markets.
I decided that this time I’d go to the McCahon House while I was out there. It’s quite a haul back up out of French Bay, but I’m glad I did it.
I found it quite a profound experience. It’s hard to believe he and Mary lived in such a tiny place with four children.
This is a detail of the open-air dormitory he built under the house for two of the kids. I tried the Camera+ HDR effect (which I’ve taken to using as a pseudo paint effect) and was quite pleased. I fancied it looked a tiny bit like a McCahon.

This is unfortunately a common occurrence. Hopefully one day very soon events will realise that many of their audience/clients will be trying to access the site on their smartphone on the day and that it needs to be a lot easier to navigate. And no, it doesn’t need a separate event app.
Splore did have an iOS app, by the same developer, and that was very poorly designed too. It annoys me that developers can sell clients on “brand” sites of so little use. An event site needs to offer up information about the event.

I was going to suggest that what Christchurch needs is not CERA, but MW, with their army of yellow trucks and diggers, and whatever faceless bureaucrat looked to Scandinavia for urban planning and insulation.
You're not the first to muse that Christchurch really needed the old Ministry of Works and its power to command resources. Many of the MoW's old roles have become specialised and may be more suited now to contracted-in machinery like the big blue thing that added the lanes to the Newmarket Viaduct. But imagine how Christchurch might have used the men and machines from our great public works projects.

I did not expect today to be so difficult, personally.
Me neither. I've been a mess since I saw the 185 Chairs picture this morning.
I've realised how connected I've felt to what's happened without actually experiencing it: growing up in Christchurch and knowing that so many of the places I used to play are gone, visiting, writing about it, what's been shared over time here, wanting to be there to give you and (heh) David hugs ...
And then when I thought I was okay again and resumed work on the TV show I still have to make tonight, I got a text from Blair that just knocked me over. Christ.
