Teh interwebs is alive with speculation on the subject… (megabox.com seems to have vanished)I honestly think there is little or nothing in this.
For one thing, Megabox launched, albeit in beta, in December.
For another, if I understand what they were trying to do, customers uploading their entire music collections for public use is still plainly an infringement of copyright.
As Billboard noted last month, it's not exactly a new idea -- and the actual music sales part of it seems like an afterthought.

Civil offences? Sacha, what do you mean by a civil offence?
In general, copyright infringement is primarily a civil offence, in that the owner can take civil legal action and, where appropriate, claim damages.
The threshold for treating it as a criminal offence varies considerably between jurisdictions.
Also, many criminal matters have a corresponding civil issue — even something as simple as assault. But I doubt you’d be happy using that logic to distinguish assault.
You've completely lost me there. I really don't think that's a good analogy at all.

claim to have done.” and she is right, most other industries have done it without suing everybody in sight, corrupting politicians and blatantly crushing their opposition with the DCMA.Actually, the smart people, the ones who looked for opportunities in a changing world, do deserve credit. We're seeing deals in Europe where ISPs offer unlimited access to music as a premium -- and creators get paid. And, in comparison with other content industries, the music business looks reasonably advanced.
The disappointment is the constant willingness of parts of that business to demand the unacceptable.
