Chris Trotter made an interesting observation on The Panel about the possibility of cops being filmed raiding news organisation offices and what a disaster that would be for Key/National.
I think that's a certainty. National should hope that the organisations going to court delay the execution of the warrants until after polling day.
Thing to watch for tomorrow is Bradley Ambrose going for his declaratory judgement that the conversation was not private under the law. That would sink the whole thing.

The interview with him was carried live-to-air, and even if RNZ didn’t name him, his identity was already on the internet (and was revealed on mainstream news outlets shortly thereafter). So where’s the “protecting your sources” angle to this?
No news organisation can credibly request an interview if it is willing to subsequently provide information about the subject to the police.
Radio New Zealand’s head of news, Don Rood, says police have the interview that went to air, but he is refusing to hand over any material gathered by news staff in the course of getting the broadcast excerpt.
He says Radio New Zealand will always protect its sources and the right to gather and report news in the public interest.
They are to be searched because they reported an election campaign story during an election campaign.
I’m sure you’re relaxed about that. I really am not.

I'm doubting he has them. It sounds like someone's given him a verbal summary and he's repeating that.

Key again refused to discuss the contents of the tape with media in Whangarei this morning, repeatedly saying it was a matter for police.
Asked if he was at war with New Zealand's media, he said: "I don't think that is an accurate description."
He insisted he was acting on principle. Key would also not respond to a question from TV3 asking if he talked about "getting unbridled power".
I'm bloody sure I'm on drugs.

Fair enough. Correction made.
I should have phrased that differently -- as something for National's outraged blogerati to consider when they fume over the political use of a private conversation.

I've knocked out a new post about the police demands of Radio NZ.
It's titled 'Criminalising Journalism', and no, I don't think that title is OTT. This has gone to a bad place.

Just in: police say they will execute a search warrant on Radio NZ today or tomorrow, in pursuit of “unpublished material”, subsequent to the interview with Bradley Ambrose.
I think this just got WAY out of hand.
