Oh, nice: Barkers have a new range of t-shirts based on classic Flying Nun EP covers. I am gonna get me some of this one, for certain.

Up Front: It's Not Sex, and It's Not Education, in reply to
hmm, Diane Taylor, what do you think would be a more open and honest byline? The fact that she’s (possibly a former) social worker? Or the fact that she’s the Secretary of the Ecclesia Dei Society of New Zealand Council.
Yes, they really might have pointed out that she's a conservative Catholic associated with Caritas (who do, it should be noted, do some good things), who gives seminars with names like Grace of State versus Culture of Death ("A discussion of the complementary educational roles of parents and teachers, according to the teaching of the church").
No one who parrots the Pope's vile "Culture of Death" line should be regarded as a secular authority on sex.

The Herald has also printed a partially literate screed from someone who claims to have studied and research sex education at university.
Good grief. That really is some mad shit.

Hard News: LATE OCTOBER: Life in the…, in reply to
Can I please choose ‘Capt & Mrs?’ Can I? Or even better ‘WOSA’ or ‘Wing Commander’. What is a WOSA, anyway? That’s certainly the most comprehensive list of titles I’ve ever seen. I hope we don’t lower the tone of the place too much.
That's fabulous.
And, I can only assume, something to do with it being a War Memorial Museum.

And just when you thought the Herald had fired all its guns, in comes Bob McCoskrie, ripe for the fisking.

the influences of non-English tongues around the world – Yiddish in NYC for example

Our (Australian born and bred) producer could not understand a word Tom Scott from Home Brew said on Media 7.
I agreed with a couple of other people afterwards that Tom’s is a born-in-the-mid-80s-Grey-Lynn-to-Avondale- white-kid accent. I’m sufficiently familiar with that accent that I only hear it if I listen, but it’s fascinating when other people hear it and react.

Hard News: A work of art called Chimney Book, in reply to
Living in Auckland it’s hard to get a handle on what Chch was all about, but like Bart, Chimney Book gave me a glimpse…
Absolutely. I've been in Christchurch twice since September and once since February, and the second time I got a fairly ground-level look. But the first-person experience communicated by Blair, that was something different.

Is it just a coincidence that if you take the middle 7 letters out of "warmly thank" you spell ... a terribly appropriate word?
No, really, I was reading it for the articles. And, quite seriously, reading something written for women was probably quite useful.
It would also be fair to say that in some matters there is no substitute for practical experience. If only I had teh skillz then that I do now ...

I think you have to tell them the truth - my son learned about Santa quite early on and was happy to play along but didn't realise about the tooth fairy until he was 8 or so and found the carefully saved teeth one day - he was VERY angry, he'd been betrayed
I think both of ours just gradually realised it was a story. It didn't seem to matter too much.
Listening to our younger boy talking himself through the existence or otherwise of God was a delight. I gave my opinion when it was requested but basically left him to it. He never seemed to credit an interventionist God, but was a deist for a while. He's now indignantly atheist.
It's an interesting one for us, because it's not unusual for young ASD people to go for the security and structure of belief.

Also, my teenage self would like to warmly thank Cosmopolitan magazine.
