And there goes another Murray McCully moment…

I feel like I’ve missed out on something.

That was my gag. It'll be in the video.

Suck on that, you bleating panty-waisted liberals.

I really want to believe that's satire ...

Just FYI: work on the video of Emma reading PA Story is progressing nicely. I'll try and have it up on Vimeo on Friday.

There'll also be video of David H's extraordinary presentation, and a general mash-up of the evening.

  • Hard News: When the Weather is the News,

Anyway, in #firstworldproblems news for Auckland:

8.10am WeatherWatch.co.nz says snow and rain showers are moving towards Auckland from the west this morning.

Weather analyst Philip Duncan said it is proving tricky to predict – as forecasters have never had to predict snow for the Auckland region before and some showers are failing to make it to land from sea.
“Confidence remains high that snow will fall to low levels on the
ranges around Auckland – potentially as low as 100metres with the odd snow flake falling to sea level with heavy showers,” Mr Duncan says.

“Graupel and hail showers could make driving extremely icy and hazardous – something Aucklanders don’t normally have to be concerned about, especially during daylight hours."

The precipitation forecast maps suggest it’ll kick in sometime around midday.

How about setting up a donation thing for Haywood’s power bill? I’m in for $20.

That’s a fine idea, and one I suspected David might baulk at. But he cannot stop you buying a book from him:

-1 celcius in the roof of my house this morning. First time the HRV has shown a negative reading. Inside, 16. No heating was on. We had the place insulated this year. It really works. Big power saver.

It's very noticeable in the extension we added last year -- double glazing (that's the rules now) and insulation top and bottom. It does work. In the old lounge, I amused myself by seeing how much ti-tree and old rimu framing from the house I could get going in the Jetmaster at one time.

So, unless CERA can do a deal on our special circumstances, it looks like we won’t be able to stay in Christchurch.

    Damn. Damn, damn, damn.

Nevertheless, I do find it amusing that the slightest flurry sends great parts of the country into apoplexy, and people start acting as if a disaster is befalling the nation. It's NZ, people. It snows, occasionally.

Things did actually look pretty dicey in Wellington last night though. People stranded, buses off the road, the electricity flickering on and off. Brrr.

  • Hard News: Is that it?, in reply to B Jones,

I thought it was the huge number of female voters who switched to National after Brash left that tipped the balance, but nevermind.

I thought so too. Also, I find it unedifying seeing Armstrong all over it as election strategy without bothering to ask whether it's consistent, sensible or likely to be an effective use of taxpayers' money.

It's like these guys are all so fixated on calling the damn race that they can't bring themselves to ask how that boot camps thing from 2008 worked out.

    Sort of appalled, actually.
