If the introduction of a CGT results in people leaving the housing market, or holding on to their second or third houses rather than selling them for a quick profit, okay. Far more likely is that people will add the tax they will pay into their rational decision-making process to sell at any given time, the same as they might do with real estate agent fees. And if paying a bit of tax means they’ve got less money to buy the next house with, well that’s okay, because the deflationary effect will mean that next house’s price isn’t juiced up on the promise of quick profits.
That is very nicely put.

It’s clearly one made with no cognisance of the political elements of the case.
I beg to differ. It seems to be all about a certain sort of politics.

From the Herald story, quoting Arie's lawyer:
The building owners were astonished and extremely concerned that someone had been prosecuted for the burglary, he said.
Understandably so: the building was a shop damaged and abandoned after the September quake, months before. It was going to be demolished, for goodness sake.

And this despite a very strong steer from the judge to have another bleedin' think about their attitude and reconsider diversion. This is turning into something like a vendetta.

#onyaAnd it was baked in from the start. I remember before the (proper) site launched going in to visit and Richard showing me how he was using CSS to run a nice contemporary looking site that also worked perfectly for screen readers when you turned off the style sheet. Apart from anything else, it showed how easy it was to do if you really wanted to do it.

And he’s made sure that open formats are used as well as proprietary ones. Awesome sauce!!
He also got it established as policy that Radio NZ would not use DRM or geoblocking, ever. Doing it right.

Heard him speak on Saturday about the 1855 Wellington earthquakes (Wairarapa fault). That one was over 8 and aftershocks, including large ones, went on for a year.
Was that the one that sent high waves zooming back and forth across Wellington Harbour for hours? That must have been a sight. A scary sight.

Just to really bum you out, watch tonight's leaky homes documentary, A Rotten Shame, 9.30 on TV One. And curse the day the Building Act 1991 was passed into law.

putting him in the same studio with Coddington could have gotten really putrid.
But on this occasion, did not.
