  • Hard News: #NetHui: it's all about you, in reply to Megan Wegan,

I had to acknowledge to myself that I was basically trolling a lot of the time at Kiwiblog. Didn't seem right.

I too find that hard to believe.

Mostly taunting, but still often not in good faith.

I did occasionally unpack the flamethrower -- I thought I'd made Redbaiter cry once -- but I try not to use the power often, or without very good reason.

  • Hard News: #NetHui: it's all about you, in reply to Rich of Observationz,

The right have been fighting and winning the class war for years. If you choose not to partake, you're still a victim. (unless you happen to get lucky and wind up on the winning side). Just sayin.

I respectfully disagree. It is more productive to address what someone is saying than to reflexively exclude them with an insult based on what you thought they said ages ago about a different issue. I just can't be bothered with it, basically.

And you do realise that by being a frequent and valued commenter here you have fatally aligned yourself with the espresso-swilling bourgoisie? :-)

It is in a basket with Kiwiblog to me. The energy it takes me to forget the comments isn't worth the nuggets of wisdom.

On a sadder note I’d finally plucked up courage to go to an OGB and got permission, but you put it on a Thursday – conspiracy I say !!!

So you can still come along but can't have a late one?

Just tell the boss you're menstruating on Friday :-)

  • Muse: That Book, The Ban That Isn't,…,

Tapu Misa's column is good, but:

Because nobody should profit? Wishart is a former award-winning journalist, who now edits the conspiracy-loving Investigate magazine. I'm not a fan of the magazine or the books he's written, but to suggest, as some in the media have, that Wishart should have turned his back on the chance to gain some insight into a case that, five years down the track, continues to generate such strong public interest and emotion, is frankly hypocritical.

Isn't an issue for me. Wishart is so reckless and agenda-driven that I wouldn't be holding out a lot of hope for "insight" from any of his work.

Yeah, and that's why a lot of us, especially, I suspect women, don't read The Standard.

I occasionally read it, but don't contribute there any more. I can't be bothered contributing in a place where the first response always seems to be some clown calling me a class traitor.

One point made to me over the weekend by someone who knows Wishart and by another who is in the publishing industry was that they would not be surprised to find that Wishart himself started the Facebook page in order to prompt a boycott/ban.

Nah. I think it's vastly more likely that he's simply made a major miscalculation.

  • Up Front: Life on Mars, in reply to Lilith __,

Obviously Geonet has rated it 5 on the MMI scale in response to felt reports, worth noting that a 2.9 moment magnitude yielding a 5 in MMI is highly atypical according to the values listed in Wikipedia.

Indeed. But I did notice it, and I've missed small quakes before. I certainly wouldn't have called it "strong" though.
