I’ve got to pop out for the rest of the day, but I thought the only point being made is that Laws will concern troll on behalf of nice white middle-class people who look a lot like him, while continuing to void his media bowels all over everyone else. Must be a day ending in Y…
For perhaps understandable reasons, Laws will generally go easy on scandals involving sex (sorry: "sensuality"). He positively exuded sympathy for Clint Rickards. Although he still manages to shoehorn a nasty little dig at Arie Smith into this one.

I also can’t help but wonder if the problem with Goff isn’t partially to do with his advisors / staff. He was a very solid, effective cabinet minister, yet poor as an opposition leader. Maybe his current staff aren’t up to it, yet he continues to take their advice out of loyalty or because there’s no one else ?
But he got to choose his advisors. I've seen him up close a couple of times in the job, and was struck by what seemed to be a lack of assurance. Sure, no one envies the job of leading a party that's been dumped out of office after three terms, but as I noted, he did have momentum after Mt Albert and managed to squander it.

So the advent of House was never a revelation to me as such, just a continuation from the disco music that I have always loved. I’m all about the dancing.
TBH, I've always loved the disco. Donna Summer and the Sex Pistols. At Rip It Up, I used to drive the Snake T-shirts guys nuts by repeatedly playing Shannon's 'Let the Music Play' quite loud.
My Zanzibar favourite was Stephanie Mills' 'Pilot Error'.
Dancing is good for the soul.

Just a thought while the leg of lamb and potatoes cook ...
What the house culture meant for me in 1988 was a chance to break out of an indie rock scene that had become dark and dull. It was going from standing listening to drones (don't get me wrong, I like drones) while balancing a plastic pint in a sea of people wearing black, to feeling like part of something that was really happening.
I recall I particularly appreciated the outbreak of bright colours. Black can be a tyranny.

Dieter Meier and Boris Blank were, with Kraftwerk, the godfathers of all things Chicago and Detroit so it's a perfect fit, Jacqui
Yes. Check how Kaftwerky the Virgo 4 track that leads off Trax Re-Edited sounds.

All of us have such very different tastes. And thank goodness. Although it would be fantastic if at least one of my acquaintances shared my love of early Elton.
Early Elton is the only Elton. I was surprised how many of my friends hadn't heard 'Tiny Dancer' until Almost Famous came out.
I have a really good little recent BBC doco covering the early years, named after Madman Across the Water that I can share with you Jackie.

Cheap and cheerful videos knocked up in '88 to take advantage of the explosion of interest in Inner City's music.
'Big Fun' with bonus geezers:
And 'Good Life', in which Paris Grey dances around the West End of London and Kevin Saunderson, for some reason, runs:
