Hard News: The digital switch-off, in reply to
Yup. But we aren’t watching it as it’s broadcast.
That’s vastly overstated too, apparently. There was something in the paper not long ago.
Yup. Although the Jason Paris story does suggest a figure of 20% of NZ TV viewing being time-shifted, which isn't insignificant.

Nice. Looks like half my family is heading your way this evening. Feel free to engage Jimmy in talk about film. He is perceptive.

This seems to be the perceived wisdom, but can anyone point me in the direction of some actual figure for NZ that back this up this notion of audience numbers dropping?
Basically ... they're not. We're watching more TV than ever.
Although the audience is being spread more thinly and -- significantly -- advertising revenue has slumped because of the recession.

Hard News: The digital switch-off, in reply to
The TVNZ 7 programmes worth saving could find a home on Stratos, soon to be the only NZ non-state-owned national broadcaster.
This idea is not lost on me, believe me.

Hi guys. I've written a little blog post on TVNZ 7's death sentence.

Hard News: Nothing important, just some tunes, in reply to
Brilliant Media 7 episode: intelligent, sensitive, gripping. Big ups to all those involved.
Wow. Thank you. Seriously.

Christchurch is different to many places in that property values and social conditions diminish as you head towards the sea. I've been quite surprised in recent years to be reminded how stark the demarcations can be.
New Brighton was, to be honest, a bit munted before this all happened. It must be a hard place to live right now.

But what is this talk I hear of TVNZ7 facing the end (as in John Drinnan this morning)??
As things stand, it's true. I'll try and write about it for Monday.

Hard News: What Now?, in reply to
“What, them? Well, I suppose I could deliver some bread, or perhaps some Cake”
Y'know what's funny? My friend in New Brighton was enthusing to me on Friday that they'd just been given some Louise cake -- by the Army.

Cracker: It's a Wonderful Thing, in reply to
Unfortunately, this week it has been announced (although still no official press release that I can see) the Government won’t be funding TVNZ 7 any more. Shitballs. So I guess that’s probably the end of that.
I gather they were on the verge of issuing a press release, then didn't.
But, y'know, it ain't over till it's over.
And congratulations, mate.
