Tom Semmens: I've deleted your last comment. It was nothing more than picking a fight.

If you're tempted to continue in that vein, please don't. Or I will ban you.

Everyone seemed to suffer from rapid battery loss on Tuesday. I’m guessing that was from multiple competing signals, and maybe damage to cell sites causing every phone to have to push out further.

I seem to recall something about continually having to renegotiate 3G data connections – ie, situation normal on Vodafone in some places anyway – also being a major battery drain.

Yes David probably wins for coherency on an phone at 2 am … how did they know he was the right person to ask?

Toby Manhire was familiar with David's work and I was able to give Toby his mobile number.

I had no idea David would turn it around that fast, though. He's been known to tinker with a story for years before publication, and has previously expressed the view that he could never sit down and knock out a post in an hour like I'll often do.

Turns out, he can. With bloody great big knobs on.

That iOS autocorrect thing is the worst auto correct bug ever. I got the same thing trying to tell Fiona by text that David and Jen were “unhurt”: changed to “injured”.

    Seriously, who does that?

Also, it’s lovely to see you back online.

Ha! Ever the quick eye. :)

Someone else spotted it. I just performed an expert appraisal.

I think you could make the Welly one a fundraiser too – there’s enough of us here. (I arrive back from Samoa that night. I’ll make it if I can.)

Yes, that too. We have those flights booked. Hopefully we can find a kindly ear at Air NZ and convert the others.

what a fantastic idea, Russell – although it does make me giggle just a little bit to imagine David trying to fend off all the well meaning hugs

    No hug, no money.

    Heh.

I’m in. Especially as I won’t be able to be at the Welly one, if it goes ahead <shakes fist while looking slightly embarrassed at immense self-involvement>.

My thought is that we have the flights booked for it for Mar 10 -- I'd written the copy and we were going to launch this morning -- so we should do it, but make it and the Auckland one a fundraiser. Fly David and Emma and families to both.

I still haven't heard from Blair Parkes, who was down as the musical talent. Worries me a bit.

Ian Dalziel is okay! Just confirmed with David.

    Yay!

Also, David and family have already booked to come up to Auckland to stay with his mum for the foreseeable future.

I'm thinking that we should do a Great Blend or something up here and raise money there. Stay tuned.
