Planning to watch US Skins tonight. Will let you know.
In other news, I can't decide whether US Being Human has missed the mark or is just going to be different.

I’ve not followed this story, so can someone tell me if the above is what M Dev said happened, or what the police/courts have said happened.
Fair point. It’s Devlin’s account.
1. I doubt Devlin would risk lying in the circumstances. Taking diversion basically means accepting the police account.
2. It tallies with eyewitness gossip that circulated on the internet. (Apart from the “blazing row” part reported by the HoS.)
3. The charge was disorderly behaviour, when anything more serious (eg: assault) would have attracted another charge.

Kate: that font stuff apparently looks good on an iPad or whatever else the cool kids are using.
On anything but Windows, actually :-)
Thanks for helping Kate.

and then The Open Late,
Oh, the Open Late, champion of the "special coffee" -- which, iirc, was made possible by an amendment to licensing laws. Saw the dawn a few times there. Inevitable, given that we had to drink quite a lot of coffee to get an alcohol buzz on. Good jukebox, but.
I further seem to recall rumours that the startup capital for the place had an, er, interesting origin.

The Hubcap Cafe, on Symonds St
Yes, that's it. Should have been tipped off by the, er, hubcaps ...

Domino’s was later, that was Judy Millar too, and Markman and I worked there as well, as The Diner had closed by then. There was never a K’rd one, not sure what you’re referring to there.
Ah. I'm confused then. What was the place near the Ponsonby end of K Road? Hubcaps on walls? Anyone?

OK, many people prefer it. Even a plunger is overkill if you’re traveling, a small sieve does the same job.
Here's where I admit that we also have a Presso.
One-shot portable espresso machine with twin levers to push down manually. It takes a bit of skill, but I've extracted some most acceptable coffee from ours.

The recent resurgence in real coffee in Auckland well predates DKD, it really started with John’s Diner on Albert St 1981-83. There artist John Reynolds ran a 1970s boxy coffee coloured Faema, and before that along with fellow artist Judy Millar, had Starship downstairs in Vulcan Lane.
Ah ... John's Diner. Although I only remember the K Road one.
Am I right in thinking Domino's in Lorne St also operated an espresso machine in the early 80s?
But it would be fair to say that things really changed when the independent roasters started

If you are really perverse, you could always go to the Parachute Festival at Mystery Creek this weekend. Why do Christians have to colonise everything--music is quite properly the property of the devil ;-)
A journalist of my acquaintance who grew up going to church and thence to Parachute assures me that there was much more devillish behaviour at Parachute than is commonly acknowledged ;-)
Like everybody really stays in their own tent.

My back-rod is even worse. People usually ask me for latte, knowing it’s what I make for myself, and man does it take a long time to steam ten cups of milk
I sometimes pretend to be drunk so my darling does the steaming if there's a lot of it. It's a distraction from the business of trying to get the espresso to come out perfectly, IMHO ...
