  • Busytown: For the (broken) record,

Should we give up teaching Shakespeare to the whole class?

I'm not a big Shakespeare fan, and I've only read or seen a minority of his works, but I certainly wouldn't agree with that. A bunch of them are good, others are reasonable. Certainly a very significant author that should be part of the school curriculum, though perhaps not as much as happens now.

Romeo and Juliet is just terrible and makes me want to throw stuff at the screen or stage if I get subjected to it. If it could be banned from the school curriculum and other parts of civilised society I'd be much happier. My true feelings for the lead characters would be pushing the audience of Emma's blog to blush, let alone Jolisa's, so I'll restrain myself.

Ahem. Only an hour until beer o'clock :)

Are they the same ACTA who want to take away our internetz?

Now you're really fucking with my mind. And er, "all threads eventually lead to copyright" for the win again!

On the other side of the debate, trade groups such as the American Christmas Tree Association

That is possibly the coolest name for an organisation ever. I want to be a member.

  • Up Front: Because You Are Wonderful,…,

Emma's book is actually my Christmas present to myself. I hope whoever gets it (I'll decide after I read it) doesn't notice that it's not virginal. Perhaps I should wear latex gloves whilst reading it. Or is that like taking a shower wearing a raincoat?

Sounds like you want David's book with its washable cover.

high ceilings are all very well until you have to heat them .... 'Sunny Dalmore' huh - my wife used to live in a house across the road still referred to as just 'Pine Hill' (as in "when we used to live at pine hill")

That's enough of you and your bringing-me-down negativity. Careful or I'll make you come paint my current hallway.

(and woodburner, and free source of wood, and two heat pumps. Nyer :P)

Next on our list is buying a house

You're going to need to be more aggressive with your book selling. Another five thousand copies and you'll have a decent deposit.

Woohoo, I made the top.... er, 16?

Thanks Emma for a year of top posts, including some that widened my eyes a little (mostly in the comments).

I'm not buying anything until after my partner and I move into our new home (for those who like restored villa porn) and sell our two current houses, but both your book and David's will be on my list.

Now all I can think about is kinky sex with Paul Holmes. I'm guessing olives might be involved.

Olives won't make you numb enough to get through that. Try crack maybe?

How much we borrowed in 2010 is going to be the least of our problems - most of the urbanised nations of the world are going to have big problems making their payments by then.

You should write Xmas cards y'know. Or maybe sympathy cards: "Think you've got it bad? Well, let me outline what your dearly departed will be missing..." ;)

And I second your other options for the reading and buying public - particularly ANY Judith Binney. Love her work.

Hopefully she recovers from her serious road accident and returns to research and publishing.

Craig - excuse my ignorance, but what does QFT stand for?

  • Random Play: Welcome to this world,

Not Arnie at his best either.

There's a scale of relatively that largely lives in the negatives. An actor ideally suited for playing a robot.
