Black Francis has had so many kids he could probably deliver little homey himself.

Like anything involving the Pixies there would have to be a squabbling argument with Kim Deal over the baby delivery procedure while the guitarist looks on frustrated.

Do you know how long I have been waiting to see this band? Twenty years. TWENTY. YEARS.

Same, except I think it's 19 years for me. If they were anywhere else I'd have my ticket. The price of flights to Auckland has currently defeated my credit card however.

I'd hope if you front up to jetstar and say "can I have 4 million tickets please?" they're gonna give you a bulk discount.

If not, Mike Pero will arrange it for us I hear.

It's hard to avoid the conclusion that this is a big fat patsy, generating outrage so that whatever the Tax Working Group report suggests will look moderate and sensible by comparison.

That was my conclusion as well Keith. I was reminded of the 1994 Todd Taskforce on tertiary education funding which presented two models - one big bad suck most of the government money out, and a second not so bad leech a heap of money out slowly.

One option gets the headlines, the other gets implemented, fees jump from $1500 to $3000 over the next five years.

All we need now is the government to release option B.

  • Hard News: So-called celebrity justice,

Would having more, and better resourced, cops on the beat be a more effective use of the massive amounts of money that are poured into maintaining and monitoring CCTV cameras?

That's a difficult question. When you think about how many cameras you can put up for 24/7, with recording, compared to one police officer available for 40 hours a week. 20? 30 maybe. Depends how closely they get monitored I guess.

It's probably a case of horses for courses. There's probably the front of some pubs and social gathering areas where the cameras are great value. Other places, 50 cameras isn't as good as a cop with a brain.

And that is making the assumption that by attacking the common understanding of the 9/11 attacks, they will be able to undermine the rationale for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I find it bizarre that conspiracy over 9/11 is the thing you'd choose to undermine Iraq and Afghanistan.

As compared to the screw-ups that both wars have been, the complete lack of WMDs, the fact that the highjackers were largely from Saudi Arabia, the political mess of the Afghani elections, etc.

Why fight the bizarre and hard battle, when there's heaps more easy ones out there?
