It's that the fake threat of global warming is damaging local retailers this Christmas not the, you know, recession, while those dodgy climate scientists in East Anglia are getting off lightly compared to Tiger Woods. Does any of this make sense? Of course not.
And the New Zealand cricket team, and Pakistan's catching woes, and then a poem. I'm still on six topics.

Of course Brash's formula is Deregulation → Magic Box of Magicness → economic growth
I thought it was Tax Cuts → ignore last 25 years of evidence → economic growth?

Maybe if David returns he can answer some of the questions people have raised.
The bog-standard response that seems to come up here that anything to do with churches is to be mistrusted and avoided isn't very helpful. Lots of aid work already occurs through churches, both locally here in New Zealand, but particularly in the Pacific Islands. They're they only institutions that cover the broad geographic range that occurs in an island state, they're community based, they have people on the ground, and the government simply couldn't afford to build and staff a civil aid centre in every village. Churches are already there, so it's entirely sensible to use them. When disasters occurs that's where people will go looking for help as that is the heart of their community.
The idea that a church inherently can't be accountable is silly. There's nothing inherent in government, or NGO organiations that somehow make them immune to corruption.

I despair.
That doesn't even have a topic. If he's going to be foolishly wrong, can he at least be it about one thing at once, rather than six unconnected rambles?

Kyle: check the costs and the necessary distance from the house for a worthwhile sized windmill.
Cheers for that, interesting. Solar water heating it is.
Actually, it was never free. I went to the University of Canterbury for 4 terms, and then I had to quit. I couldnt afford the textbooks any more, and I couldnt afford the living expenses or other fees (and women were especially limited in the holiday jobs they could get.)
Enrolling in a university in New Zealand was essentially free (some universities had administration fees).
Students these days pay all of the above, plus $4 - $10K more, plus they are less likely to find work these days, plus there is less living support than there was 30 years ago. It's a classic case of one generation taking something and then charging the next generation for it through the nose.

Project Aqua was the wrong plan and in the wrong place. More power production should be established closer to end-users.
Perhaps David Haywood (if I remember this is his area of expertise) can answer why we're not being encouraged to put small windmills on our properties more. I know there was a failed attempt to subsidise solar water heating, is that a more efficient use of money than mini windmills and batteries?

Contrary to belief of some, Penguin did not issue a recall and book not rare.
My understanding was that they offered that they would take any books back that booksellers didn't want. Be interesting to find out how widely that was put around the actual booksellers, and how many took it up.

Does that mean we can start actually building wind farms rather than refusing to because it's too ugly?
Facebook groups will fix that: Put a windfarm in my backyard if you like, because I'm not an idiot.

I don't think any of it is significant, or germaine to what's happening inside the Labour Party.
That's my complete outsider's thought as well. The inside of the party is probably a slowly building backlash against Goff and looking ahead to the future after he loses the next election with younger blood.

Trotter's easy conflation of anyone with a non-approved identity (step back, you wimmin and gays) with a notorious terrorist group was bizarre and unpleasant.
I'm sure there is maths that can at least provide some reason why offending gay people might make electoral 'sense', however distasteful, given that they are an actual minority. Women make up around half the population, and are more likely to be Labour voters than men. Talk about pissing off your base.
