Just because you can't tell something is brilliant at the time doesn't make it so. That evaluation can come later.

That night turned into a drunken talkathon with the people besides us - I couldn't recall a single winner that night.
I only caught a bit of the show, but when the lifetime award was being given, it was very noticeable through the TV that a decent portion of the audience were chatting away and not paying any attention to the stage.

You haven't been following the debate concerning midwifery much, have you?
I guess that depends what you mean by alternative, but if you mean "not using mainstream western medical science", most home births don't fit within that, at least not in whole. They'll often have an alternative sideline - homeopathy etc.
But then again, a birth which works well is still a very natural experience, and in the most part not too different from how it was done hundreds of years ago. Informed by some Western medical science, but still often using traditional techniques.
Where there's complications of course, it rapidly changes.

You'd have to wonder about TVNZ's decision-making there. How does that ever look good for them? If the family want to try a psychic, they're not hard to find the contact details for.
(You'd think that one would turn up on the doorstep as soon as you decided you wanted one really).

That does feel harsh Peter, particularly given it's Russell you're saying it to. His house and all that.
I bought a Lotto ticket yesterday, which my knowledge tells me doesn't make sense as a money making scheme. But I get something out of it, as does Russell with his treatment. If he feels its a good use of his money, and he's obviously informed himself about the realities of the treatment, up to him.

I think in order to do that you require some sort of 'perfect storm'.
Maybe an Osteopath logging on to talk about copyright over a book he wrote about (the evils of) vaccination.

I'm no doctor, but I suspect people who are doctors might have something to say about this.
