If I was the All Black coach in this position (god help me), I would want to have the last game of the season in New Zealand be a great big win. Save the new selections for the northern tour
But it's entirely consistent with what Henry has done previously with games he doesn't consider to be important. And not unreasonable. Whether or not you believe it, this is the reason on stuff for them not playing:
Young rookie tight five players Isaac Ross and Owen Franks come into the resting category with coaches Graham Henry and Steve Hansen stressing they weren't scapegoats for last week's loss to South Africa.
And to be honest, Ross got plucked up to the big time and was a real chance who came up gold. Now the coach is using a dead game to pull up another person in the same position, we seem to have forgotten how successful it was last time this coach did it with someone in this position.

Japan's new prime minister is apparently a fan of Telethon type pledges.
"and he calls on all the other Prime Ministers of Asian countries to do better!"

The idiot who jumped in the fire was a student at Telford (a polytech for farm-hands).
I should point out that it doesn't just teach people to be farm hands. I'm sure there's a fair few rich white farmer's children going to Telford, but the ones with serious farm running aspirations are probably at Lincoln.

I don't agree with this, not in the context of Hanson's comments about the lineouts being the result of "human error". Frank's is the lifter and Ross the jumper and - in a frankly bizarre move by Hanson - the key lineout caller. The message is crystal clear - they are carrying the can for the line out woes.
You've linked together the lineout woes and his dropping, which is possibly the cause, but not necessarily. Henry doesn't tend to carry players through a whole series exactly the same, he gives them breaks and puts in other players to try them out. No one starts all four games on the northern tour, he needs at least three locks that can start a game and he doesn't have that currently. It continues to be our weakest position in terms of top level players and depth.
The Bledisloe Cup is safe, the Tri Nations is gone, this game is a dead rubber. Why not give some players who have been pushing for selection (eg. Thomson, Donnelly) a start?
Tialata has been a successful All Black, covering both sides of the scrum for many years. He had a bad couple of games in South Africa, which doesn't make him a bad player. Franks has done well stepping into the position and will go on the northern tour, no harm him having his first non-start in... five games?
FFS, just pick the best specialist centre playing in the ANZC and slot him into the team. Could we do any worse????
That next best in that position, based on recent form, is Toeava. He was very good on Saturday.

The majority of students on Castle street are there by choice, with the flats tenanted as early as July of the preceding year. If they were poverty stricken they would be flatting in the NEV for half the price.
Flatting on Castle street doesn't make you rich (or white, or a prick).
Otago flatting culture is the envy of students all over New Zealand who would love to have the social lifestyle that Otago has. Castle Street is the center of that culture.
If the (rich) street you live in was a determining factor for the penalty you should get when you cause trouble then we should be looking at Remuera, Kelburn, Fendalton, etc, not a slum in North Dunedin.

Ever wondered why successful basketballers are tall?
That's a silly comparison. The guys who throw the ball most accurately, and set up the tall guys in basketball, are the guards, the shortest. They also tend to be great at outside shooting.
No doubt there's many factors which make a hooker a good lineout man. The most important is putting the ball in the right place at the right time. Height might help with that, but 90% of it will be throwing accuracy and timing, all of which are skills regardless of height.

Josevata Rokocoko is starting to look like a cat with the number of lives he's had this season. I guess Sivivatu's injury saved him.
The rest looks OK. Ross has got umpteen starts all season and has earnt future games in the black jersey. No harm in giving someone else a start given that the tri-nations is gone. Same with Franks, Tialata could do with another shot, he's been working hard in Wellington despite lack of game time with the Lions.

Er, because that's what a large majority of them are ?
The generalisations on this thread are getting a bit overwhelming. Students do have some diversity, and no doubt the ones on Castle St include people who are struggling through by working while studying, hefty student loans, just as much as those funded by their rich white parents. I don't think family membership of the country club was a prerequisite to get onto Castle Street. $10 to put towards a keg would have gotten most people three or four jugs and sufficiently trashed to be idiots.
There's a trend in New Zealand to attack students for their perceived wealth. There's an allowance which is means tested on your parents income, long after you've left home and become an adult, a student loan scheme which is justified because of your possible future vast earning potential, and now throwing the book at students because they're all rich white snots. It's a disturbing trend and it leads not only to public outrage, but terrible government policy choices.
Whether or not students are wealthy, either on their own, or through family money, or poor, shouldn't we be calling for them to get the same treatment as any other dickhead that drinks too much and does stupid shit?

Critic is trying to fronting a discussion on solutions to the problem on facebook.
From memory, in1994/5 there were no arrests at WSU protests, NZUSA or constituent association events either (I could be wrong on this last part).
Please Paul. Would I let a whole year go by with that? We had one arrest when Lockwood Smith came down to open the Performing Arts Centre at Kings High School (he refused to come near campus for the 6 years he was Minister), and about five or six (including myself) at the National Party Conference in August 1995.
I stand by my view that they should be expelled until such time that they can re-enter Varsity as adult students.
I keep having this discussion down here.
Students like everyone, should face fair punishment for their actions. The police have already indicated that diversion won't be offered for any of the people arrested over the weekend, so they're likely to face convictions and fines, assuming no one did anything stupid enough for a jail term. That's as it should be.
The expulsion of students from university for something that they did in the weekend is foolish, and would apply to very few people in society. Ordinary folk keep their job if they get arrested for being drunk and throwing stuff at police, why shouldn't students?
For all the gripes that I hear about students having their own special legal system with diversions to maintain their careers, I fail to see why that should be turned around and they get pinged twice for something - police and university punishment.

The Herald will be doing a feature article this weekend with reaction from various people to the book. There's going to be some slamming of it going on.
