  • Field Theory: The Canterbury Tapes,

Yeah, but when you hang them on the washing line your flatmates are all "ooo, Amy's got legwarmers".

Ah see that's where you went wrong. Washing and ice hockey gear don't really go together.

Also why doesn't anyone care about socks?

Us ice hockey people care about socks. Can't play ice hockey without socks over your pads. Over the summer I'm going to go shopping for about 50 pairs of socks like this (like this on the players]].

  • Speaker: Remembering the Chartists,

The huge spectre of Greenpeace standing behind Keisha is reason enough to treat her as a hostile witness right from the get-go.

Because god forbid the PM should engage with representatives of environmental organisations about climate change.

Seems to me that's pretty much what he thinks and he did. Not in so many words.

No he didn't. He responded by telling her not to get involved in politics. I'm not sure why he thought it was OK to tell a citizen they shouldn't get involved.

  • Hard News: New Zealand Weekend Television,

In reality, while they were cheap they were also mediocre pies, even compared to supermarket pies.

The best thing about Georgie Pie was the pricing, which was all based about $1, $2, $3 etc. So a little pie was $1, a big pie $2.

The sundaes for $1 were great value compared to other food joints. As were the little pies.

The right to question is not the same as the right to be heard.

I don't mind if Key says he thinks she's talking rubbish, or even if he chooses not to respond.

The PM telling people they shouldn't express their opinions, that's not good.

I would expect the same response to just about any layperson asking a public question of the Prime Minister.

I have a problem with that. As a citizen I always reserve the right to question my PM publicly.

The Wellington and Christchurch centres will go dark from midnight to 9am Sunday, and Dunedin doesn't feature, radically curtailing the chances for amusing regional performances in the dead of night.

My partner has been eagerly awaiting her call up to perform this year, after playing bass for The Same at about 4am from the Dunedin studio, "nationwide" (she likes to remind me) in one of the original telethons (1978?).

Apparently the lack of a Dunedin centre is a big plot against her.

  • Hard News: Deja Vu,

Neither do I, but asking questions about ministerial travel isn't some media beat up either. It's also a little rich of Carter to bitch "Never let facts stand in the way of a good story, journalists!" on a party blog, when he won't front to make his case. Its certainly a rather novel definition of 'no comment'. :)

It is somewhat bizarre. Carter could argue that his blog post is about his ministerial expenses from last year, not the MP expenses that the media are braying about.

But he's clearly using the blog as a response to the attacks on his MP expenses, despite saying that he's not allowed to respond.

Is there a media minder currently being assigned to sit on Carter and prevent him from moving/talking/typing?

  • Speaker: Remembering the Chartists,

There's a media adviser somewhere who either wasn't listened to or didn't do a very good job. A response along the lines of "We're happy to hear from all New Zealanders about such an important issue, including Keisha..." would have pushed it away.

In actual fact the government seems to have made their decision weeks ago, but good on Greenpeace for trying to push them along.
