(So glad you clarified that it isn't the taste of marmite & vegemite that are the same - that really would've been the thread that wouldn't die...)
Restrain. Must. Not. Gaaah!

I have just realised that I may combine all of my Film-Festival-going themes - douchebag, asshole, *and* batshit - in one film this afternoon, and that film is: Tyson.
Heh. Definitely Westie.

The Trade Me forums are the first place I go to check if the vague rumbling I felt was indeed an earthquake.
People still buy and sell stuff on trademe right? Just checking.

I believe it's spelled 'pendant'.
How meta of you.

I just wish that so many sports clubs, community groups and even schools weren't so dependent on gambling profits.
I'd be fully in favour of that as well. It would have to be done in a similar way to the smokefree shift. The government would have to set up a funding body which provided a similar amount of money to that no longer available from gambling sources.
Pokie machines turn over approximately 1 billion dollars a year, and according to the Charity Gambling Association, distribute $270 million to community organisations. That's a lot of spare change for the government to find, particularly given that the government also earns $270 million directly from pokie machines.

Right yes. It does seem to be of limited usefulness. I guess it might deter the less serious offender, those people who aren't hooked up with the right sites/software etc.

The loquacious version for the less technically inclined: your computer is not secure. Not even slightly. The ease with which malicious software can be installed on your computer cannot be overrated.
Sounds unlikely. Even if you had images on your machine, having malicious software which put them there would be a good start to a legal defence. If the machine had downloaded images when you could prove you weren't there, that'd also help.
If the filtering scheme is in place, we still won't be able to get to them.
Any international proxy server will however. Relatively easy to arrange.

3) A belief that the end justifies the means, however violent and destructive that means may be.
Also the complete lack of realism about the means getting to the end. A campaign of terror was never going to stop American involvement in the war. It was, if anything, counter-productive.
5) A belief that 'the people' will, once properly informed and shaken out of their ignorant apathy, flock to your cause.
The WU used to raid school classrooms, tie up the teachers or lock them in an office, and 'rap' to the kids about the war, revolution, Maoism, and 'the man' in the belief that the youth would flock to them and join the revolution.
It was spectacularly unsuccessful. Some kids armed themselves and ran the WU activists off they disliked it so much.
There's another question about the links between hard-line ideology and the shift. SDS was not a very ideological group, they fought battles with Progressive Left, a Trotskyist group that was using their popularity to try and increase their own membership, but most SDS members didn't have any traditional leftist ideology - hence the 'new' left. The leaders of WU however became ideological - most a perverted form of Maoism - shortly before they split and went underground. They turned their strengths and successes on their head and made them weaknesses and failures.

I'd also like to note a very specific hypocrisy on the part of Taekwondo New Zealand. If Campbell is not "normal" or "an acceptable role model" in the eyes of right-thinking folks, neither is putting $22K a year through the pokies -- which is the amount TNZ received last year from this organisation to "support the 2008 NZ World Junior Championship team and 2008 Commonwealth Championships teams".
I run a sports organisation that receives a considerable amount of money from foundations that run gambling machines. We wouldn't exist without this funding. Lots of sporting organisations have moral concerns about using pokie money, but there's very few other options in New Zealand. If the pokies didn't exist, sports in NZ would be horrendously affected and the government would need to step in to provide some other source of funding.
There's no relationship between that and what sportsmen and women do in their jobs. Just because they're both moral issues doesn't mean that a sporting body has accept both or neither.

geonet had it at 6.6, near Tuatapere.
I didn't feel it at all, nor did my dogs.
