  • Field Theory: Must be some guy that Lester,

    TV interest.

But the TV interest for the superbowl is strongest in the US. Sure, it'll get watched in a bunch of places around the world. But why would you shift timezones away from your primary base? I don't see how TV benefits.

Doesn't matter where it's played, it'll still get shown everywhere around the world.

  • Field Theory: Must be some guy that Lester,

Take something quintessentially American and instead play it in England.

Also raises the question of "what's the benefit?" It's not like there's an American football league over there you're going to help grow. They have some stadiums in America that can hold the game.

You can have enormous respect for what both men did, but suggest they actually need to bring something else to the table.

Sounds like he'd bring an interesting perspective to Foreign Affairs.

I'm unaware of any other country where it's de riguer for there to be at least a 1:1 ratio of cup holders to seats in even the largest vehicles.

Heh. If only there were less cupholders, the obesity epidemic would be solved!

  • Hard News: There is History,

Experts warned the virus could mutate and come back with a vengeance.

As a person who gets pissed off the media headlining with uninformed people with no qualifications all the time, it'd be a little hypocritical for me to bitch about them giving lots of space to "people who have qualifications and jobs that mean they allowed to say what they want in this field".

It takes the focus one step further away from the real problems facing people day to day in the developing and still to be developing world.

Yes. It's also interesting to note that we're not especially concerned with how its affecting Mexico, our prime concern is once it crosses into the 1st world and starts to affect us. Poorer countries can have all their diseases, as long as they keep them to themselves.

  • Hard News: Madness in Mt Albert,

having been flown in from overseas at the behest of party leaders and not at the invitation of the local electors.

And the article says that he owns a house in Mt Albert and lived there before going overseas.

By-elections really seem to be down the bottom end of grown up mature politician behaviour don't they (which isn't saying much).

I'd be amazed to find out that there was no automation solution that could've allowed them to keep production here, even if it meant laying off some employees.

I don't know anything about making dishwashers, but I think if it could have been done cheaper by a machine, F&P would have done that, here or in Mexico. The most likely reason why it's still being put together by people is that it's the cheapest/easiest/most reliable way to do it.

When it comes to saving money, capitalism typically finds a way.

  • Hard News: Goodie Bag!,

Comedy Central have just implemented region locking on the online full episodes of the Daily Show and Colbert Report. Noooo!

I've always found the full episode player to be worse than useless. When I miss a daily show I watch the individual clips (player, not much better than useless), they haven't locked that down as of this evening.

A good week for the resurgent Cabana with The Phoenix Foundation, Don McGlashan and Grand Prix all in the space of 7 days.

Can I take the space to talk up Reb Fountain who's touring with Don McGlashan and his band. Caught her live last year and her CDs have been on high rotation ever since. Should be a great gig.

    No they frickin' don't.

Can you have a conversation with my girlfriend? Her dog wears this stupid red and blue t-shirt at night to keep it warm. I think all the other dogs laugh at it. I'm embarrassed.
