I'm sure you can understand why the police don't want to go near electoral law issues, though. The party being prosecuted will invariably claim the police have been leaned on and are bowing to political pressure And if you're a top copper it probably pays not to piss the politicians off. Because that pollie you're prosecuting may one day be your boss.
I suspect if there were prosecutions under election law, it wouldn't tend to be the people running, but more their campaign managers and party presidents/executives.
And the police can deal with prosecuting and not prosecuting politicians in other situations (see, drink driving, driving tractors up parliament steps etc), they should be able to do it here.

No, don't be daft! Lets just verbatim quote the UTTERLY UNINFORMED OPINION OF SOME RANDOM MOUTH WHO HAPPENED TO BE ON THE PLANE! WHAT A FUCKING GREAT IDEA! HOLD THE FRONT PAGE!
You would have enjoyed the Daily Show tonight. Jason Jones reporting from the "Center for stuff I heard from some guy".

For example, NHL coverage in NZ is almost impossible to get.
CIF : HD downloads of all playoff games and most regular season via torrent. Open regs at the moment.

I got a letter from TV NZ re: Paul Henry today. The significant bits:
Ms Mills appeared on Breakfast to discuss the issue of compensation for the health effects of nuclear testing. The discussions referring to her in the subsequent Viewer Feedback segments of the programme were inappropriate and not relevant to the reason she appeared on Breakfast. In the circumstances, when Ms Mills was a guest appearing on the programme to discuss a serious issue, such personal comments about her appearance were inappropriate and unfair to her. Accordingly the Committee considers Ms Mills was treated unfairly and upholds the complaint under this standard.
TVNZ is committed to maintaining broadcasting standards and views this sort of breach very seriously. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. As a result of this incident, a number of discussions have been held within the News & Current Affairs department to clarify TVNZ's expectations around such matters. The Head of News and Current Affairs has called meetings with the Executive Producer and senior staff of Breakfast, and also with Mr Henry himself, to insist on the need for more care and discretion around editorial decisions about what the programme covers. In particular, Mr Henry has been told that on-air editorial decisions are not his to make and that he must adhere to the Executive Producer's decisions in this regard.
TVNZ would like to apologise to you and your family for any offence caused by Mr Henry's remarks. As discussed above, steps have been taken to ensure that broadcasting standards are adhered to.
Fairly wet bus ticket, but at least he's been told it was a shitty thing to do.

Or maybe this guy.
I'd be dubious that anyone is going to be able jump on a plane, jump on an ice rink, and make a Canadian junior team, from playing inline. We have some inline players down here and its about a 2 year conversion process. The skating is different, and that whole hitting/not hitting changes the whole game.
Gore ice hockey junior Dane Dunlop just went to middle of nowhere Canada to try out for the Dauphins juniors. Ice Blacks Jordan Challis and Chris Eaden would be the ones you'd take out of the New Zealand system. Chris got the game tying and game winning overtime goal in the Ice Blacks recent win over Greece, which got them the 3rd division gold and promotion to division 2. I think Jordan spends his summers in North America for their winter season.

He's a scoring machine and plays in a team that on balance is not as good as the Penguins.
Shooting percentage 10.6, under all the NHL leaders, and behind the top shooters by almost 10%. He's only a +8, which when you consider how he's been awarded points for 110 goals in the regular season, shows weak defense. Compared to Pavel Datsuk, 97 points at +34. Or Zach Parise 90 points at +30.
He's a marquee player, and certainly a good one, but part of the reason that the Capitals have him is to bring people into the stadium in a non hockey town, which he's working well at. He gets big goals at big times, including a heap of GWG. He's got about 10 years to go on his contract, and if they get knocked out by the Rangers it won't be long before people start saying that it doesn't matter how many great goals you get, you're never going to be a great hockey player unless you lead your team to deep playoff runs. 82 regular season games only determine who you play at this time of year, the rest is meaningless.
Compared to the significance that Malkin brought to Penguins last year, when Crosby was out and he lead his team into the playoffs. That team went within two games of winning the cup, they probably wouldn't have been there if he hadn't stepped up.
(Umm, edition 5 of ice hockey posts that no one else cares about)

Sorry - I do know how to spell 'you're' - see.
Weakest link. ref. "Off the island."

so I'll pick Ovechkin in the NHL.
Meh. You shoot that many times, sure, you'll pick up the Rocket.
He's not exactly led his team to glory. They're struggling to beat New York who have only scored about 10 goals all season, out in the first round last year as well.
I'd go with Crosby or Malkin. Toews, Bobby Ryan, or Steve Mason would all be fine too. Luongo if you weren't looking as long term.

If they're not doing colours up to red, it won't work for me as an alert system.
Unless they put DEFCON in front of it. That'd help.
