My teenage son did one of those IQ tests (probably not from there) - it wanted his cell number to text the results to - somewhere along the way he signed up to some bogus text service he couldn't afford - much yelling was done over the phone - beware
My partner struck the same thing. She didn't know they had charged her cell phone until she received a txt telling her that it had been taken. Might have been hidden in the small print I guess.

When you're doing that, the retailer is purchasing offsets against the emissions involved across the electricity lifecycle - i.e. they work out the average emission intensity in a given kwh (being x% of generation in NZ has emissions of y) and offset that.
Does each additional purchase of renewable energy units increase the number at generation end? If I go and buy a thousand renewable energy units tomorrow, will the companies produce or pay offsets to make another thousand renewable energy units?
Or do they already produce an amount of renewable energy and if I buy 1000 renewables do they just file my purchase under 'hydro' or 'windpower' that they've been producing for years and pocket the additional charge that I paid?

Snap. Good for Powershop, I said to myself. Mind you, I recall on the news the other Sunday they had the special offer from the IV fertilisation people.
Yeah that was weird. I half expected the news story to finish with offering a free set of steak knives.

Without wishing to agree with Drinnan, the two paragraphs that Russell posted the other week did raise a red flag for me. I had intended to email you about it Russell, but I've been consuming BSG seasons 1 and 2 (which is proving to be an easy distraction).
I've happily been the recipient of PA sponsor's goodness several times previously, so this isn't a complaint. More a concern that I felt those comments maybe needed a stronger disclaimer, an indication of what PA/Russell Brown was getting from the company (which you've provided today) so we could assess your comments about it in their light.
I'd be very concerned, for example, if your editorial comment in Hard News was linked to selling advertising. I don't imagine you'd ever do that, but clearing up exactly what that part of your column is (ie, independent from the advertising deal) would remove that concern.

That's not crazy.
Crazy is NHL players as their teams approach team deadline day.
Sometimes they have their morning skate with their team on game day. After the skate they go back to the changing room where the GM stops them and tells them they've been traded. And then they find out it's the team they were to play that night.
So they have to pack up their gear, walk down the corridor to the other changing room, and introduce themselves to their new team. "Hey guys, I'm swapping sides."

Is it because he wasn't convicted of murder?
That's enough of you legal sorts and "pointing out what really happened". Back to the cheap seats.

Wouldn't that just move as well?

League is just starting their comp and I can join in and feel like I'm engaged, same for Netball but the Super 14 comp, why bother it's almost over already.
Also the rugby season in NZ is the wrong way around.
We start with the higher level competition (Super 14), then have a bit of top international, then go to the lower level competition (Air NZ Cup), which dwindles off into nothing with no All Blacks, and then we finish with the northern tour which is tremendously difficult to watch because it's on the other side of the world.
If everything swapped around (NPC, Northern hemisphere tour, Super 14, Northern Teams downunder/Tri-nations in order) then it would build from small to big at all levels and the climax of the season would actually be here in New Zealand so people could see the game, rather than having to get up at 6am to watch it on TV.

My understanding of the sponsorship structure is that only top teams have secured multiyear deals with their sponsors. The teams that are at the bottom of the competition have revolving sponsors (including B.O.P's string of failed finance companies) As far as the wages go most of the top players wages are met by the NZRU
Not many of the top players play for Bay of Plenty.
And no sponsor is going to front for a team that has a chance to disappear down to the 2nd division and therefore off TV.
And with no sponsors at the second division, no team is ever going to be able to afford the players needed to get up to the first division.

Automatic promotion relegation for the bottom and top 2 teams in each division
I fail to see how promotion/relegation is going to work in a professional/amateur split competition.
1st division is professional, 2nd division is amateur. There is a large rift between the abilities of the two divisions and this will continue to grow. What chance would a 2nd division team have of beating a 1st division team?
And, I say this as an amateur sports administrator, how can you run a province which jumps between amateur and professional competitions? One year you need to sign a bunch of players to contracts and find lots of money to pay them, the next year the contracts are player agreements for no money. One year you need to employ more staff to cope in the 1st division, next year you're down to a couple of staff and amateurs running the rest.
No sponsor is going to sign up for a team when they know that most likely it'll be a one year deal because the team will slip down to the lower profile 2nd division after a year.
It's all very well to compare to other professional competitions overseas, but those are professional tiers, not professional/amateur tiers.
