    Think of the shorties, people.

I should add, as a humungously tall person, I feel uncomfortable standing with people behind me at concerts and whatnot, and always try to stand at the back or side so that I'm not blocking someone's view.

It's a terrible clash with my girlfriend, who is rather short and so naturally pushes her way to the front so she can see.

  • Hard News: Veitch,

For shame, Sacha. How is it a con?

I think people are speculating that the con was:

    1. Producers saw her beforehand thought "ugly duckling + incredible voice".
    2. Producers told judges who played up the "oh who are you and what are doing here?" before she sang.
    3. Judges then omg fall over in shock when she opens her mouth and part two plays out.
4 equals 'great TV' and mass viral swoon via youtube = great for show.

ie the con is how the show played the opportunity to get the most benefit.

  • Cracker: Of Tweets and Twats,

I can actually picture Michael Lhaws sitting at his desk after a hard day, writing turgid soft-core.

I'm impressed that you brought the thread to an even lower level than I had managed. Truly talented you are.

    Oh DamiEn!

Thank Christ. Chapter VIII of that story was really getting bad!

  • Cracker: Of Tweets and Twats,

Okay, I googled, and ended up at Forbidden Love, Part VII:

Damion carried Christie deeper and deeper into the forest, making sure to leave Chris far behind them. He finally came to a clearing, and if Christie hadn’t been so shocked by the argument that she had just witnessed, she would have recognized the clearing as the same one that Damion had taken her to on their first date.

Damion lay Christie on the ground, saying very quietly and calmly, “Now, Christie, I know you probably want to run right now, but please just hear me out first.”

    ...

Damion sighed with relief, then said, “Well, if you really want to know, if you did tell anyone, or even let the secret slip, then your memory, along with the person’s you tell, would be permanently erased of me and…I would be executed.” Damion said the last few words in a mere whisper.

Christie was taken aback at this information. Wow, the vamps really want to keep this on the own low, she thought. She then moved closer to Damion and kissed his cheek, causing him to blush slightly. “Then I guess I won’t be telling this story any time soon,” she said softly. “I can’t imagine losing you, or having you…” she couldn’t even make herself say the last part, so she resulted in kissing him again, this time on the lips.

Damion smiled away from the kiss, then said, “Christie, I’m so glad that I’ve found someone as special as you. No one has ever been so accepting to what I am. I hope that it stays this way forever,”

    “Me too, Damion,” Christie replied.

    ~

Through the trees next to them, Christie and Damion were unaware that they were being watched. Chris ducked behind the greenery that surrounded him, watching the couple with a look of pure jealously and hatred. Hope all you want you filthy demon, Chris thought; referring to Damion’s statement. But like it or not, this is not over. Christie will be mine, and if you think that this is the end, you’re very, very wrong. I’m going to turn your world upside-down. And with a quick rustle of leaves and branches, he was gone.

Did I take a wrong turn somewhere on the information highway?

  • Hard News: Veitch,

It's beautiful, because it plays on expectations while simultaneously reinforcing them.

Why can't anything just be good and nice and fluffy and that's all?

    Damn complex world!

    Ben,

The first surely. Apart from anything else, as I think I/S pointed out, taking it off his site doesn't make it disappear from the internet, so if he really wants to disown it, he actually needs to make a positive move to say "the writing that used to be here I have removed for this reason".

By removing it but nothing else it was still out there, with no disclaimer or notice attached.

Speechless. That's just all kinds of awfulness.

It truly is. Can someone take away that man's right to appear in print, or any other media?

Freedom of speech does need some sane limits after all.

  • Hard News: Veitch,

I remember reading that American Idol contestants, for example, are weeded into three groups before the judges even lay eyes on them. The middle group - the unexceptional ones - never see the judges at all, while the other two groups - 'good singers' and 'deluded/crazy/taking the piss people' get to go to the audition room we see on the telly.

It's an average book (no where near as good as Stark for example) but Ben Elton's Chart Throb will pre-disillusion you about these relaity idol type shows. And yes, they totally cover the the pre-selection before the judges get to you see process.

  • Hard News: Veitch,

2 He was in a bad relationship.
This is not meant in any way to excuse his actions - but -

Bart, having just spent the evening reading through this entire thread, and also watching the Campbell Live interviews (her: impressive and restrained; him: looking even more a dick)...

...today feels like the day where statements like the above should be interrupted at the 'but' and not allowed to continue. Isn't that exactly what he said at his original media statement? "It is no excuse but [five reasons which are no reason to hit another person follow]"

This Guy got 180 hours community service and ordered to pay reparation for wilfully damaging a bag of feta cheese.

Heh. Good context point Steve. I'd feel more comfortable about the 300 hours if it was all devoted to appearing in newspaper, tv, and radio adverts with a script written by womens refuge rather than by his media minders.
