I refuse to run Vista, even in a virtual box. When I have to use Windows, it's XP sp2 which is as solid as Windows gets.
Yeah, I wish I'd gone that way. XP was just getting stable when they brought out Vista, typically Microsoft test it for three years on paying clients crud.

What will be gained either way, regardless of the result of this trial?
I'd like to think that along with the concerns you note, that there is a point of principle in there.
That is, if the police believe that David committed the murders, they should try him for it, even if it's going to be hard to get a conviction. The expectation of the police is that when a crime is committed, they do their best to find the criminal and bring them before the courts. I'd be very concerned if the police didn't do that.
The whole thing has gotten so tangled over the past 15 years, that I think sometimes society has lost that basic point.
Whether anything will be gained? I don't know if that's likely anymore. But sometimes you don't do things for benefit, you do things because they need to be done.

But they're still lurking in my cupboard, waiting to enslave me again, if business goes south.
Weddings, job interviews and funerals is my rule.
And if the job requires a tie, it requires a significant increase in salary to compensate spending a large portion of your life both being strangled, and having to deal with a silly dangly thing around your neck. A tie levy so to speak.

One word (apparently): Chessboxing.
It took me about 30 seconds into that clip before I figured out that I'd misread it as Cheese boxing.
I want to know what that looks like as well actually.

The cost has something to do with it, I'll admit - why pay for what I can get for free online?
The cost is half of it for me, the other is the tremendous amount of paper.
I fail to see why I should pay money for them to waste paper printing half a newspaper worth of adverts that I never wanted to see in the first place.

Indeed. And if I'm paying $600 for a corset, you know what I'm NOT doing in it?
Wearing it? Man.

Or there's this.
Lol. Those students...
I suspect another split is that jocks play the sport, particularly at the high level. Nerds run the sports, manage the leagues, promote it, run kids sports etc.

OK.
If there was a list of things that that government should require a 2/3 majority of parliament before they can do it, who gets a sword waved at them and a silly title would be well down my list.

End of the day, women will always choose to maximize their beauty with whatever means come to hand, and men like me, will always do their damnedest to see through every disguise to the core, what the woman looks like naked.
Personally I've always been more interested in what's not shown, than having it all out there. I find women look way more interesting in some clothing than naked. There's less allure once its all revealed.

I don't know, I think the middle class is certainly doing it. Do you cook at home the same food that your parents used to cook?
Largely, but my parents departed a moderate amount from the standard 3 meat and vege when I was a child - my Dad did a Chinese Cooking course, and I cook Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food moderately often - though less so now that I'm feeding two kids, particularly the younger one who is allergic to the onion family.
But again, that's one example. Yes the NZ diet has changed. We eat out more, and we're more likely to eat food that isn't the standard meat and 3 vege.
But that's a normal cultural change of diet, come about through various factors. And it will continue to change.
My question is, if the government wanted to push that process along, make it faster. How?
